Aunt Ami (Pt 1)

Ami was still fascinated by her tiny niece and nephew. They were so little and perfect. Even if they were screaming and crying for reasons no one could decipher- babies did that. Their eyes were shaped like hers and Tzeitel- large and wide. But they were still that dark blue color newborn babies had, and Ami read that their eye color would probably change as they got older. So they might have dark brown eyes too. Other than the eyes, they did not look much like Tzeitel, they did not even look much like each other.

Ami wondered if Tzeitel would ever be able to be in the same room as the twins, Ami learned that Tzeitel had begged for them to be taken away right after the c-section. Since then Tzeitel has been isolating herself as much as possible, Klaire has had to force her to go to therapy sessions. Ami had seen very little of her, which was… disappointing. Ami had looked forward to meeting her sister for so long, then when she met Tzeitel she was so broken and just wanted to hide all the time. The family felt broken too, Klaire being the only one able to reach Tzeitel at all.

Ami let the babies wrap their tiny hands around her index fingers. She smiled, unable to resist how cute they were.

Cody stared at the twins with curiosity, but didn't get close, too afraid he might accidentally hurt them. The past month had been full of ups and downs for the boy as he’d slowly grown accustomed to his new family and his visits with Dr. Chi. It had helped to have James, a father figure, and Ami with him, but he still had not spoken. Everything he “said” was written in a notebook.

James watches the kids with a small smile. “You're going to be a good aunt, Ami.” He said.

“They’re so little.” Ami said. “I wish Tzeitel wasn’t…”

“I know,” James said and rubbed her back gently as he got the baby formula ready with his free hand. Having pyro powers had its perks when it came to warming things up so he didn't need a microwave to warm up the bottles for the twins. “Klaire is doing her best and trying to convince her to come spend time with you, at least.”

Cody gave Ami a small hug as his form of comfort.

Ami hugged Cody, the boy had become her brother, they had bonded over watching her worn out Pirates DVD over and over again. “The babies won’t hurt her.”

“I'm sure she's aware of that,” James said with a sigh as he gently picked up one of the twins and began to feed them with the bottle. He offered the second bottle to Ami and Cody, knowing they loved to help.

Smiling, Cody took the bottle and would let Ami position the baby so he could feed them. He loved helping people
