The silence stretched between them as Cara frowned. What did she want here? Seriously. What was the whole plan anyway and why bother The Lady over it? What did she really want? If it is to break cleanly from the family, she was doing a terrible job of making it happen.
Another sigh reached her reverie. "Your mother was always like this. Back when. All fire and conviction yet unwittingly naive. She didn't like being told what she could do, so rebelled. Often." There was a soft, wistful smile on The Lady's lips. "It really wasn't all that long ago, not for Elves, or so our specialists believe. Mara started hanging out with some friends from school who didn't conform well.
"It caused both of us no end of problems since I allowed myself to be dragged into her plans." At the curious glance Cara gave her, The Lady continued: "Even before the the awakening that led to our true species emergence once more, our family operated in the upper levels of society. This comes with costs, my dear, including a driving need of the family to make sure to both build and protect the family reputation and good name. :
The raised eyebrow and slight snort drew her aunt's cool gaze. "Which reputation would we be talking about, Auntie?"
