Meeting With The Baron
Jp with Lorem, Lasersexpanther, LucianNepreen, Jaxx, Redsword, mdman,
Elizabeth kept her voice down as well, I believe your correct but if it was someone from the team they had little time to contact the Baron about the addition to the team. Either way, it is clear the Baron is not trying to hide that he knows."
The half-dwarf smiled as Lorem made her way to her seat and left with a slightly more boost than when he had entered.
Tristan had taken a seat towards the side. Looking fairly relaxed.
Everyone had drinks, and had seated themselves at the table. Flora walked back into the room, and said. "May I have everyone's attention. The Baron Hadwin Greenwood." Though Flora rolled her eyes, indicating this announcement was not her idea.
Elizabeth stood up, and ushered everyone else to stand. The Baron was a pompous jerk but he still outranked everyone in that room, in both nobility and rank in the Order.
A man, dressed extremely well, with an air of superiority to him entered the room. Looked around, got a slight grin on his face as Elizabeth bowed slightly to him and then said. "Greetings, everyone. I am Baron Greenwood. Please take your seats."
Sasha had stood begrudgingly and sat the moment she was allowed, no sense on standing out among everyone, her out did enough in that regard. The only other things she'd noted were the new members seeming confusion over why a meeting room seemed more plush then the highest end hotel money could buy, the other was Docteur Jackal's puzzlement at why she sat so far away from the head of the table. Something she'd willingly explain later if he happened to ask but she was sure he'd figure it out by the end of the meeting.
After the Baron introduced himself, he did something that brought a sense of confusion to Cronk. By Take your seats did he mean now or after the meeting. It was a comfortable seat. One that Cronk wouldn’t mind in his room.
Cronk stood staring at the chair. Maybe the Baron was testing the team at following direction. Cronk rubbed his chin before responding, “Take seat where?”
Sooner or later, one would find they would need to be quite literal with Cronk. He didn’t always get the little idioms of everyday language.
Elizabeth really wished she outranked the Baron, he just enjoyed the fact that people had to bow to him a little too much. People bowed to Elizabeth as well but she never gloated about it.
Hearing Cronk's question, part Elizabeth wanted to laugh but refrained from doing so.
Elizabeth never had any younger siblings or really been much around someone like Cronk but she was beginning to understand how to talk to him. With a gentle and polite tone Elizabeth said to the Orc, "It's an expression. He's asking everyone to sit down." Then she added, "sit down, here in this room, not take the chair actually anywhere."
The Baron, on the other hand, was not quite as polite and huffed as if annoyed by the question.
Cronk shrugged his shoulders and took a sip from the pitcher. He looked round and saw everyone else seated in their own chair. He looked back at Lady Elizabeth, nodded, and expressed, “Thank you, Lady Elizabeth,” then plopped upon the chair.
Sasha closed her eyes and took a deep breath upon hearing The Baron huff and show that level of annoyance over something so small, but didn't allow her distaste to be known.
The Baron looked at the group, shook his head slightly and then said to Elizabeth, "Apparently, you have added some team members I knew nothing about."
Elizabeth looked at the Baron for a moment, and nodded. "As per the allowances issued by my father, as my role as team leader. I am allowed to add whomever I choose." She had him there, it was actually standard protocol the team leaders could do that, he was testing Elizabeth to see if she was aware of it.
"Then introduce me, to the new members of the order." Baron said.
Elizabeth got up and went around the table to where the Baron was standing, she walked him first to Lorem. "This is Miss Lorem Ipsum."
Before Elizabeth could say anything else, the Baron interjected with , "Ah yes, the engineer," Baron Greenwood then spoke directly to Lorem, "Your file shows you as being quite the skilled engineer for someone so young."
Elizabeth had never heard Greenwood compliment anyone before, unless he was making advances on a woman. Was he ...? She spotted the slight smile and look he gave Lorem. Damn, he was flirting with the Gnome.
If it had been, almost, anyone else Elizabeth would have maybe left it alone but the Baron was notorious on how he treated women and his flirting was never harmless, excatly.
Elizabeth cleared her throat. "Yes, Miss Ipsum is quite the engineer, I look forward to using her designs when they are completed." She moved the Baron along quickly.
They arrived at the Orc, "This is Cronk. "
The Baron looked at Mr. Cronk, but said nothing to the Orc before moving along., making it clear he thought of Cronk as below himself and not worth talking to.
Cronk stood before the Baron.
Cronk glad on team!” Cronk spouted slapping the Baron across the back as the Baron turned away from him, much like he would often do to Quinn. He finished off the pitcher of water. “More?” he asked.
The Baron had clearly not been expecting the slap and it physically moved him forward a few inches. Greenwood was clearly not amused by Cronk's response and turned to the Orc, looking as if he wanted to strangle the Orc. Through seething teeth, "Don't ..."
But before Greenwood could finish whatever he was going to say, Elizabeth cut him off. "We are glad to have you on the team, Mr. Cronk. I am certain if my father was here, he would agree that you are an asset." If nothing else than to see the look on the Baron's face when Cronk hit him on the back, was what Elizabeth didn't say but was definitely thinking.
"This is Mr. Vor'Aster," Elizabeth said, as they arrived in front of the Arundan.
"Interesting. Very few Arundas work for the order. It's not usually the jobs they go for." Greenwood commented, almost more to himself.
They two moved on, as the Baron was clearly not interested in having actual conversations with those that he was meeting.
As they arrived at the last introduction, the Baron spoke up, "I am well aware who this is. Dr. Jackal, I presume. Your reputation preceeds you, and I do not mean that in a good way." Greenwood's rudeness and snide comment had Elizabeth rolling her eyes.
Greenwood looked around, "I believe I know everyone else." He then turned back to Elizabeth, "Next time send me word, the day you get a new member."
"Yes, I will do that. I suppose then it was just luck we were placed in a room with an Orc sized chair," Elizabeth commented. Her tone wasn't excatly sarcastic but it indicated that she knew, Greenwood knew about the additions to the team beforehand.
Sung cleared his throat this time looking at his watch "My lady, I am sure the Baron and the team have things to do. Let us get on to business. My Lord let us try to keep this professional" said Sung to Elizabeth and Greenwood." requested Sung giving that almost same smile back to Greenwood He gave Lorem to make his point. With a smile, he stands and bows to them both then sits.
Dr. Jackal quietly sipped his coffee as he patiently listened to to the Baron clearly antagonize him. From what he saw the Baron say and do right off the bat he quickly realized what Lady Elizabeth warned him about. The Baron was clearly a self absorbed jackass who liked to look down on others and blatantly hit on women regardless of the situation. He didn't speak up as he sipped his coffee calmly. He wanted to leave the room before the Baron pushed his luck.
Vor could see the others sharing his feelings about the Baron. He wasn’t surprised to see he had a silver spoon rammed up his backside, but that still didn’t diminish the irritation of his presence. He had put his papers away when he entered for politeness sake, though the tone he had when commenting on “the jobs his people usually go for” made him glad to see Cronk be so brash around him.
The Baron motioned for Elizabeth to take her seat, which she did.
"Now, first things first, " Greenwood began, addressing the entire team. "As some of you are already aware, I do not like it when things do not go smoothly Yesterday , there was a problem with one of your team members. I will not get into details but excessive damage was done to the Exposition. The order has to pay for said damage." He then turned to Elizabeth, "Lady Elizabeth, I will want to speak with you, after the meeting."
Elizabeth nodded a reply but didn't say anything
The Baron's tone changed a little, as he inquired, "How is the investigation into Lamaire proceeding?"
Elizabeth spoke up, "Well, we have some information that I can over with you when we meet after the meeting."
The Baron seemed satisfied with that response, "Very good then." He paused and looked in Tristan's direction before continuing. "For those of you who are new, I have arranged a tour of the facilities for you. Of course, the rest of you can tag along if you so choose. " Greenwood paused, as if it almost pained him to say the next part. "As members of the Order, all of you have access to use of the facilities here." He looked directly at Cronk and said. "Do not break anything or abuse the privilege. Understood?"
"The tour guide will be here shortly. Lady Elizabeth, may I see you for a moment?"
"Of course, Baron. " Elizabeth rose from her seat and followed the Baron to the hall.
Lorem responded with a charming expression to the Baron. It was the kind that was pure and innocent, no doubt inspiring someone like himself to burn further with a predatory intent. She was very young and misinterpreted his words as gentlemanly. It was a good thing she was surrounded by others that weren’t naive to the ways of men of ill repute and were willing to come to her aid if necessary. Lorem was indeed a beautiful young lady with little experience with men outside her scope of work.
She remained quiet and sipped at her water as Lady Elizabeth introduced the team to the Baron. She wondered when she would get a chance to meet Gemma, would that be a stop on the tour?
Dr. Jackal gave the Baron a rather unsettling smile as he sipped the last of his coffee as the Baron stood up. He was looking at him like like he was an afternoon snack to make him uncomfortable. Then Dr. Jackal stood up and bowed to lady Elizabeth and Mr. Sung as they left the room and winked at the Baron. Once they were gone he said, "I must say this is some rather delightful coffee. I must find out where they got these beans." Dr. Jackal poured himself another cup of coffee and embraced the aroma before he slowly sipped the coffee. He looked at the others and ask, "So are we staying here or going on a tour of this rather elaborate estate? I am curious if the Baron had golden toilets. He does strike me as the sort to sit on a golden throne." Dr. Jackal sipped his coffee as he waited for an answer.
Cronk decided against using any golden toilets. He was told not to break anything, and well, sometimes the porcelain didn’t hold up well.
“Cronk wait outside,” he suggested to the others. He didn’t want the team to get into trouble because of him. How did the Baron know about the broken vase? It puzzled Cronk. He thought no one knew.
