Waiting on The Baron
JP with Lasersexpanther. Jaxx, Redsword and Cindy
May 15, 1889 - Wednesday
10:00 AM
After breakfast, and once everyone who was going was ready, the trip was made to headquarters.
While Elizabeth, Sung, Maseo, Lily and Nugbu were the only ones required to meet with the Baron, of course, the rest of team was invited to come along if they had things to do at Headquarters.
Marcil, as what was now common place, had driven them to The Order. Elizabeth bid a goodbye to those going elsewhere as the receptionist in the lobby of the front building called upstairs. Soon enough, they were greeted by Lady Flora Sallow, the Baron's Assistant and friend of Elizabeth. The two Eldren hugged each other briefly, before the group was led to the elevator. The elevator drooped them off, on the 4th floor. Lady Flora proceeded to escort the group to a waiting area.
This area had some soft chairs and a couch to sit on, a side tables, one larger round table in the center.
To the side was a long table with water, tea and coffee and a variety of snacks. Pastries and fruit mostly.
Flora then spoke to the group, "Please, make yourselves comfortable and help yourselves to the refreshments. The Baron will be with you, in a few minutes." Flora then left.
Elizabeth took a cup of tea and a seat on one side of the couch. Nugbu started to go towards the refreshments, when Elizabeth remembered the water and Cronk, the last time the team was there.
"Nugbu, please, if you will, take a light amount and use the cups and plates. Thank you." Elizabeth somehow managed to say it in a way that wasn't offensive and Nugbu did manage to adhere to the request. Taking a cup of water and a small plate of food. Then the Orc found the large chair, which was clearly for him, and sat down.
Lily took a cup of tea as well and took her seat as she gently sipped her tea as she watched Lady Elizabeth and Nugbu work on his etiquette. She smiled as she liked how lady Elizabeth was kind to her staff and taught them in a professional manner. She only got that from her nanny till her father saw her off. She missed her nanny and now she missed her dead father. Though they were distant, she still hurt at her loss just when they were able to connect again. The topic of her late father was painful and she was grateful that she was getting support from Lady Elizabeth as well as employment. However she was keeping some things to herself as of late. Even though she was meeting the dreadful Baron soon she was in a chipper mood since she had a rather lucid dream. In her dream Dr. Jackal was wearing a half buttoned up dress shirt that revealed his muscular chest and tight black plants. He was serving her fancy teas and desserts as she was well dressed in a fancy courtyard. She loved being spoiled as the good doctor hand fed her and fanned her with palm leaves. Then as he leaned in to kiss her on the lips the sound of a gong went off and she woke up to the clock. Just thinking about her dream made her blush a bit. She sipped her tea as she looked at Nugbu trying his best to not be clumsy.
Masao had resigned himself to be on his best behavior as planned, going out of his way to follow the norms, unless directly confronted in a hostile manner by the Baron himself. That was up until he got his cup of tea which he loaded with sugar. He knew this was likely akin to an insult given the Baron probably imported expensive tea and making it mostly sugar was likely a snub towards him, in some manner but Masao was not the biggest fan of bitter things.
Masao stirred in the sugar unintentionally, letting the spoon clink the cup now and then. When it was finally all dissolved he took a sip, looking around the table to the others, the help and having seen the other people on the grounds he stuck out like a sore thumb dressed in a bright red coat, and his purposefully puckish rogue look.
Elizabeth saw what Maseo had done, in her mind it was a shame to cover up the delicate blend of imported tea leaves with sugar. However, to each his own. She was wondering if the Captain had ever bothered trying that particular blend without sugar. Unlike the rather harsher English teas, this was finer, softer. Baron Greenwood likely imported it from the East. Japan, China, Korea, possibly a blend. Young tea leaves gave such a blend. Still, the Captain could put as he wanted into his tea.
Elizabeth wondered how long the Baron was going to keep them waiting, as she sipped her tea.
Turning to Lily, she asked. "How are you, holding up?" She wished, for the other woman's sake, that this meeting could have been postponed.
Lily put her tea down and nodded to Lady Elizabeth. She replied, “It’s been rather difficult for me as of late, but I will do my best to endure. I really do appreciate your support in this matter, Lady Elizabeth. I am concerned that my late father revealed that I have at least two other siblings whom I have never met. He made plans for their inheritance but I am concerned that may get complicated. Hopefully we can have my father’s funeral without any further incident.” Lily had a pained expression on her face as she forced herself to smile.
Masao largely tried to ignore the conversation since he didn't really consider it his business, at least not at the moment and any sage advice he could possibly give would be either worthless or ill timed.
While he took a sip of the tea his eyes flickered to a grandfather clock, he took note of the time, muttered something under his breath paired with a momentary scowl, and took another drink.
Sung took some tea like the others. He did not add anything to it. It was a good blend, and the delightful fragrance did set him at ease, some. As for seeing the Baron he would have to make sure he did not lose his patience with him. he would have a long list of things to report to the Duke about the Baron and his treatment of Lady Elizabeth. She was not some common noblewoman but a daughter of a Duke. Sung knew this was only an annoyance to Elizabeth. Sung did not appreciate it.
But the Baron knew his limits and never seemed to step over the line enough for Sung to take action. That was too bad though Sung as he sipped his tea.
