Captivity and Interrogation
JP with Lasersexpanther, Redsword, and Cindy
Ellington Estate, Paris
May 12, 1889
Around 8:30 PM
Sasha had followed Harold to the cellar, and there they'd tied the masked man down. Tight enough to cut some circulation, just enough to prove a point. Sasha rolled her sleeves up, but the gloves remained on. Taking a small roll of fabric from her coat and laying it out. It didn't look like your average 'interrogation' kit, probably because it wasn't. In fact, it was an advanced lockpicking kit, but the manner in which she laid it out she seemed to know what she was doing.
"Wakey. Wakey." Sasha said softly patting the man's cheek, only getting a pained groan in response.
"Time to get up." she reeled back and and landed a heavy meaty slap across nearly one entire side of his face.
The man shot awake and thrashed around in his chair. Panic gripped him as he saw the steel-cold look on Sasha's face. "Now then," she said almost too calmly. "We are going to see if your bravado from before holds up. What was it you said, 'you'll never answer any of my questions? We will see unless you have changed your mind and have chosen the easy way."
When the net came off and the mask was removed, it was clear the man was, of all things, an Eldren. It was odd, given how much the Children of the Sea supposedly hated Eldren.
He shot awake, clearly in pain but still managed to glare at Sasha. "I'm not telling you anything." He spat at her, basically repeating what he had said and done earlier.
Harold looked at Sasha, "I know him."
Sasha looked at Harold. "Oh?" she asked, her fingers brushing against the lock shims. "Do tell," she said, taking out a long pick with angled hooks. But turned back to the man in the chair. "But do not let yourself think that him knowing who you are will keep you from answering my questions."
"Well, never said he was a friend. His name is William Sable. Mr. William Sable, he ...." Harold was interrupted by William saying that all the Eldren would regret what they did to him which Harold ignored. "He ran an orphanage, home for boys several years ago. Mr. Sable managed to con several Eldren out of their money, claiming it was for the orphans. From what I heard he would fix the place up for inspections by the Eldren but in reality, it was a horrible place and the boys there were treated terribly. " Harold took a deep breath.
That was enough time for William to ask, "Where's Lizzy?"
Harold jumped towards the man as if he wanted to rip the man's head off, "She is Lady Elizabeth to you."
Harold took a breath, he rarely lost his composure. "William, here lost his title, the Crown has been looking for him. Unfortunately, before he was found out, he had designs of Lady Elizabeth. She was 16, he was in his twenties and maybe I don't need to say how that went. They never officially courted, thankfully, due to her age, and her parents and Mr. Sung never liked him. But well....she was 16, and Lady Elizabeth, she was greatly hurt by what he had done."
Sasha took in the information and mulled it over for a moment. "Is that so?" she asked William but it wasn't actually a question meant to be answered. "Tell me something, William." Sasha said taking out another long sliver of metal. "Do you know how lock picking works?" She asked him, making the long thin metal bar dance between her fingers. "Answer and mind your manners you do not want to make this worse on yourself. Because I am not one to feel remorse at inflicting pain." she waved her hand vaguely gesturing with the pick. "Your half amputated leg. My work. Quite good if I do say so myself. Though, I had meant to take the whole time off. a lot cleaner and the body is more prone to stop bleeding sooner." she added. "Now quick as you can answer my question. Chop chop."
William looked at Sasha, then Harold, then back at Sasha. "No. I've never used lockpicks." There was still vile in his voice, even with that simple question.
Sasha held up the pick with the hooks. "You start by sliding this pick into the lock, and use it to set the tumblers..." She held up the other this one slides in, in concert with the other to hold the set pins in place." She looked at him "Do you see where I am going with this?" she asked, William only shook his head no. "I am going to use them to unlock your secrets," she said crouching by the man's torn leg. "Now shall we begin? What were you doing with the Children of the Sea?" She asked, tools ready like a surgeon. "Now...think very hard how you want to answer this."
"Already told you, I'm not telling you anything," William responded. It though was hard to tell if he didn't believe Sasha or refused for some other reason.
Sasha let out a resigned sigh before repeating the question, but before William could answer she drew the hooked pick across the bone of William's shin, hard enough to carve a shallow groove, and cause the bone to vibrate. She felt his body twist and flex against the pain, "William..." she dug in the same grove again. "Answer the question," she said calmly, prepared to repeat the action a third time, adjusting the flat pick to keep flesh out of the way.
The pain that shot across Willam's leg was so intense he balled up his fists, digging his fingers into his palms. He took a few quick breaths. "They wanted me to tell them about the Eldren. They took me in and said they would make me the only Eldren with power in the New World. They wanted information, things another Eldren would know. They wanted information about Elizabeth, why she was investigating them."
"What did you tell them?" Sasha demanded placing the pick against the bone again. "3...2...1..." she said quickly when he was slow to answer dragging the pick again. "3...2..." she started again
"I'll tell you." William practically shouted to get Sasha to stop. "I told them where Elizabeth's house in Paris was. I had no idea why she was investigating them. " He stopped to catch his breath from the pain. "I told them about the Magic Guild Gala."
"What else did you tell them, William," Sasha asked. letting him know she was ready to drag the pick again. "Better answer, and do not lie to me. You might think you are skilled enough to but I can smell your lies," she said, using rumors of Hunters like herself to fuel his fear. "What else."
William went to scream and Harold muffled it by putting a hand over the Eldren's mouth. When William seemed to be done, Harold removed his hand and William responded. "I don't know. I told them who Lady Elizabeth's father is, a Duke. About Mr. Sung. They wanted to know how to get to her, what would make her stop. I mentioned she cared about people, doing something to someone she cares about. As for the gala, I told them who might be there. I obviously wasn't invited but I know the general time frame for such things." William responded. He didn't know about The Order, so, he couldn't have said anything about that. "They asked a lot of questions about the Crown. I didn't know the answers. I told them where to find the The Eye of The Sea." William doubted Sasha knew what the Eye of The Sea was, but he did believe she could tell when he was lying.
There was noise at the door being unlocked and it opened with Sung walking in. "Oh, Mr William, I did not know you were our guest today. I am sure You are being treated well. By our friend here. I hear she treats people far better than I do."Sung spoke without emotion calm with no empathy in his eyes almost freighting tone in his voice. Missing the normally warm and polite tone Sung was known for. Sung had learned this in Japan and as a Yakuza years back looking demonic and Cold like life itself meant nothing.
Sung closed the door it locked as Sung never took his eyes off of Mr William. "There are a few things that I am sure you can answer for me," Stated Sung walking closer. "I can ask or I will have my friend here ask. I will leave that up to you." Sung Informed Mr William.
William just watched as Sung entered, relocked the door, and came down the stairs, talking to him the entire way.
Harold spoke up when Sung seemed to stop for a moment. "Miss Lagrave, Mr. Sung I believe you two can tend to Mr. Sable and I have other duties to take care of." He shot William a disgusted look, then turned back to Sasha and Sung. "Please do get me if you need me." With that Harold left the basement, locking the door behind him.
Sung gave a bow to Harold as he left. "Now Mr. William, I think we should talk about Miss Lavigne's and Dr. Jackal. That is after My colleague here is done with Their questions. I am sure we will have much more fun than what you had with her." said Sung with a delightful smile.
"For what reason are The Children of the Sea collecting these artifacts?" Sasha pressed but didn't drag the pick.
William said nothing to Sung but gave a glare when he mentioned Jackal and Lily. "They... think ...believe many of the Arundan artifacts contain magical properties. If enough of them are collected it will help put the Arudans in charge. I don't know what each artifact supposedly does. The Visage supposedly makes potions more powerful but the rest I am sure of. The Eye of The Sea is the only one I know of that they've collected that isn't Aruadan and has real power." William responded as he clenched his fists.
Sasha took in the information. Most of which was just a repeat of things The Order already knew, but she tapped the bone once more leaving a pockmark among the long divots on the mared bone. "Mr. Sung, you have the floor."
William looked a little surprised but not necessarily relieved when Sasha turned the questioning over to Sung. He was mostly surprised no more questions were asked about the Eye of the Sea, then realized maybe Sasha had no idea what that artifact was.
