Elizabeth had just finished getting ready for lunch when a knock came in her bedroom door. "Will you, please, see who that is, Zora?"
A young human woman, around 19, standing at about 5'5" with chestnut colored hair and brown eyes replied, "Certainly, Lady Elizabeth."
Zora had been Elizabeth's personal servant since Elizabeth was 17. A much needed one, especially given how difficult high class Victorian lady's garments could be to get in and out of. For fancy occasions another female servant would also have to be brought in to help. On regular days, it was just Zora.
Harold stood at the door, a telegram in hand.
"If that is from the Baron, I am sure I do not want it." Elizabeth quipped.
"Not from the Baron, My Lady. I think you might actually want this one." Harold handed the telegram to Elizabeth who proceeded to read it and smile.
"Oh, this is good news. Harold please inform the servants. Preparations must be made." Elizabeth stated, her tone lighter than earlier.
Harold smiled, "Right away, Lady Elizabeth." He bowed and left.
Elizabeth turned to Zora, "I am going head down for lunch. You are free until dinner. Oh, wait, on second thought you and Saul, both take the rest of the day off."
"Saul. .." Zora looked surprised.
"Surely, you did not think I did not know that two of my servants were courting?" Elizabeth smiled at the younger woman. "Do you need a chaperone?"
"No, I mean - I do not know. Is that what you would do?" Zora asked.
"Yes, but I have no choice, given my status. That couple the gardners, who are married. Mael and Lea, have then go with you. They would be willing from what I have heard. Now, go make your arrangements." Elizabeth dismissed the woman with a smile.
"Thank you, Lady Elizabeth." Zora left the room.
Elizabeth went downstairs to the dining room, when everything looked ready she told a few of the servants to tell the team members that lunch was ready.
Meanwhile Dr. Jackal was busy working in the lab breaking down the serum samples as best as he could. After Lily left he knew he could work till the maids nagged him to take a break and was hoping to make more progress in the serum recipes. Since he was making a lot of progress he completely forgot about the time again.
After going back to her room, Lily took a shower to get the smell of the smoke off her and then put on her own clothing for a change. It was nice to have something that fit her properly for a change. She was grateful for the loan of the clothing but she had been spoiled with her own fancy line of clothing over her upbringing. After making herself presentable added some perfume to enhance her appearance in hopes the good doctor would notice her again. She clearly had intentions of getting closer to him but knew there was a proper process to such things. After she looked at the clock she noticed it was close to lunch time and smirked. She took her mother's music box out again and listened to it for a bit as she put it on her dresser and put up her clothes in the dresser and closet. Once she was done she put her bags in the closet and decided to see if the good doctor was still over working. After checking to see if he was in the main areas and talking to the maids she realized he was still in his lab. So she made her way to the lab and let herself in only to see the good doctor was hard at work again. She reminded him that luch was coming soon and to get to a stopping point.
Sung entered his room and placed his cane in the corner. He looked around "I need a new student one that can do the duties of a Squier. He looked over at his trunk opening the door he looked at the clothing. Turning Sung walked over to the wash basin and cleaned up changing his clothing into his gray suit. he pulled out another black sash and half-boot shoes. He liped the new pocket watch into his coat pocket. He put some clone on the Clone fragrance smells posh, and luxurious classic fresh, woody amber for an elegant and sophisticated man.
Sung combed his hair and beard and looked in the mirror and found himself satisfactory. He walked out of his room and down starts entering the dining room. Sung did his bow to everyone. "joh-eun ohueyo, Good afternoon," said Sung then walk into the room and took his seat.
Vor had decided to relax in the time he had before the meeting, trying to find some break through in his artistic funk.
All he had managed was a few sketches of Cronk’s flower contraption. A truly caring gesture and a fine display of gnomish ingenuity and heart. It had baffled him in his travels how Ms. Ipsum’s kind would deny Metira’s teachings in favor of the material, but their recent use of steam technology were similar to his beliefs, seeing water in all of its forms. Gnomes tended to ignore this philosophy when it came to natural life however.
The flower drew Vor’s attention as an exception to this, creating an inspired homage to life. The heart in gnomes was always interesting to see, especially with the ease in how they often attracted people to them. He truly regretted not taking the morning trip to the headquarters to get to know Ms. Ipsum better.
In his thoughts he didn’t hear the knocking at his door, only becoming aware after hearing his name. A servant stood at the slightly ajar as he informed Vor of lunch.
Having a good internal clock Sasha made her way to the dining room without needing to be informed. Having swapped out her full mask for the more vail like mask. She wished Lorem had been around to get access to the workshop and where to find all the tools 'Le Dieu Marteau' was in rough shape and if they were going to fight more of those things it would need fixed.
Seeing Lady Elizabeth and the other men alread at lunch. "Good afternoon Lady Elizabeth, Gentleman." she said a small bow regarding everyone before taking a seat.
Cronk was just finishing the cigar whenever the maid found him outside in a quiet place within the garden. “Monsieur Cronk?” she said in a quiet voice. “I am sorry to bother you, but it is time for lunch.”
Cronk turned and insisted, “No bother Cronk. Thank you.”
The maid wasn’t sure if Cronk were demanding not to be bothered if he was saying she wasn’t bothering him. “Monsieur?”
Cronk turned with a smile. “Lunch time! Thank you…” he wasn’t sure her name. Cronk didn’t have any names for any of the staff. How rude of him.
“Matilda,” the maid provided.
“Ma-tild-a,” Cronk slowly pronounced. He held up the stub of the cigar. “Thank you Ma-tild-a!”
Cronk followed Matilda into the house. He hurried his way to the dining hall, where he found the others already there. Nodding to them as he entered, Cronk realized he was most hungry because he had not eaten his usual sized breakfast, as he had played with the flower. The morning events also lended to the intense hunger he felt. As hungry as he was, he awaited until Lady Elizabeth gave the word. She may have an announcement. It seemed when they were all together, there was always news or a word from the Baron.
After several team members enters the dining room Lily was not far behind as she had managed to bring the good doctor to lunch on time for a change. Apparently her nagging power seemed effective on Dr. Jackal as he managed to get to a stopping point on his research to appease young Lily. During that time she filled him in on what happened while fetching her things with Mr. Sung and Cronk. It was a relief to see her in good health despite the scare. Though he was a brilliant scientist, he was weak to the persuasive skills of the young Lily Lavigne. Each day he spent with her he found himself doing as she asked. Once they entered the dining room they sat down next to each other and greeted the others at the table and the ones entering after them.
Elizabeth looked around and realized only Vor had not come into the room yet, though she assumed he would be there shortly. She would wait to make her announcements.
Elizabeth told the servants to start serving lunch. "Feel free to start eating every one." She commented to those around the table.
Finally arriving, Vor saw he was last and nodded apologetically to Elizabeth. He then made his way to a seat.
Once everyone was seated, and had started eating Elizabeth realized, they probably noticed Dumont wasn’t there and so that was what she would have to start with. "Everyone I have a few announcements. The first, I am afraid, is not very good." She paused for a moment. "As you might have noticed Mr. Dumont is not with us for lunch. I received a message from the Baron earlier today, Mr. Dumont had to return to headquarters today, he has been reassigned." Elizabeth took a sip of her tea, to allow that to sink in with the others.
Cronk’s face saddened. Dumont was one of the first of his teammates Cronk had met. It was he and the Wise One.
“Frenchie good man,” Cronk announced. “Cronk wish good things!”
Dr. Jackal swallowed is bite of Blanquette de Veau stew, which is a creamy veal stew with veal stock, before he replied, "That is a bit concerning since the Baron has already reassigned Lord Andrews. Will he try to replace them with his supporters?" Lily looked at Dr. Jackal in surprise that he picked up that so quickly despite being locked in the lab when the spy was caught by Mr. Sung already. Lily looked at Lady Elizabeth and asked, "Is this related to that uninvited guest earlier?" Dr. Jackal looked at Lily then at Mr. Sung as he swallowed his next bite before drinking some water.
The look on Sung's face of anger told everyone how he felt about Mr. Dumont having to leave the team. "No I don't think so," Sung told the others. "I think the man I found has nothing to do with Mr. Dumont. I believe it is a wider issue with the Baron. said Sung sounding annoyed.
"I think we are doing our job too well and making him look good and bad. His last team he hand-picked failed the mission and died making the Baron almost look incompetent. This is speculation of course. Also, that is how we started he had no choice but to take us, and My Lord, Duke Ellington maneuvered Lady Elizabeth in for the job. and to keep an eye on the Baron's unintended side effects for the Duke maybe." stated Sung sipping his tea.
The news left a sour mark on Vor, having met the Baron he could assume the decision had a more petty reason, but he kept himself from dwelling on that possibility. Instead he joined Cronk in wishing the man well, giving a prayer for his safety.
"That man has as an ego as robust as rice paper." Sasha commented.
