Lorem’s Playground - Part 2/3
French Headquarters - Gemma’s Workshop
As she worked, Lorem thoughtfully considered the various nonlethal types of grenade projectiles she had designed for the launcher. Each grenade was aptly named and themed after an animal, correlating with its purpose and attributes. She thought it would be “cute”, heaven forbid if the grenades didn’t look pretty, and easier to identify the variety of canisters by having them look and painted accordingly.
The first type of nonlethal grenade was called the "Happy Hummingbird." It featured a burst of sparkling random moving lights and buzzing hum upon impact, stunning and disorienting foes within its range. The grenade's spherical shape was embellished with bird-like engravings and painted, paying homage to the pretty, nimble and elusive nature of hummingbirds.
Next was the "Sleeping Serpent," a cylindrical grenade with a coiled serpent design etched and painted onto its surface. Upon detonation, a cloud of soothing gas would envelop the area, lulling opponents into a slumber or lethargic stupor. It was a perfect tool for subduing adversaries without causing harm.
The "Blazing Tiger" was a visually striking grenade, crafted in the shape of a roaring tiger head. When triggered, it released a burst of intense heat and light, momentarily blinding and intimidating foes with its ferocious display.
Another grenade in Lorem's arsenal was the "Dancing Dolphin." This gracefully designed globe released a burst of pressurized water upon impact, momentarily confusing and drenching anyone caught in its radius. It was particularly useful for crowd control and incapacitating opponents without injury.
Finally, there was the "Nimble Fox." This sleek and aerodynamic grenade was engineered to emit a forceful gust of wind upon initial detonation and with an option to also leave behind a trail of smoke screen, knocking over adversaries and disrupting their balance, leaving them vulnerable to capture. It could also provide visual cover for escape if twisted three quarter turn before loading, engaging the smoke screen department. It could also be used on structures and objects which weren’t secured.
As her small team worked on the designs, molds, welding, ingredients, etching and paint jobs, and assembly they developed a rhythm of working together like a finely tuned efficient machine. They tested everything in a safe designated area, making modifications and adjustments as needed until it worked to Lorem’s desired level of performance. She wasn’t content until it was optimized to her specs; it was a very high standard that emphasized function as well as form. The grenade launcher itself looked beautiful, like it could passes as a lady’s fashionable accessory. Or course, this one was unique for her. The mass produced ones would be a less ornate, focusing more on the function and less the form.
