Its Just Lunch At Café 2
Posted byPosted: Jun 13, 2023, 4:18pm
As promised Cafe 2 was closed off the team. A table large enough for the team was set up. As was a table off to the side. A buffet of international delights. There was, of course, a variety of French cheeses, breads, Quiches and other French foods. There was also varieties of British, German and Norwegian foods. Another table lay a delectable selection of desserts. There was also a variety of wine, beers and spirits.
A full wait staff and bartender at their disposal.
Uncharacteristically, Elizabeth ordered a glass of white wine. She didn't partake often in such things but one glass was due her today, after dealing with the Baron.
Dr. Jackal removed his top hat as he entered the café. He looked around at the table and smirked as he looked for a place to sit. After he sat down he asked the waitress for a carafe of high quality coffee and a tall glass of water. He spoke up and said, “Sorry no spirits for me please. It does not agree with my health.” Then he looked around as he wondered what he should eat as he asked, “Will anyone else be joining us?”
Lorem took Cronk’s arm and used it to help descend down from her chair. It was like holding onto a piece of warm stable rock, making it exceptionally easy to balance. Her weight didn’t make it budge in the slightest. “Thank you kind sir.” She smiled appreciatively at Cronk’s gentlemanly gesture.
When she was on her feet, she moved forward to where they were ushered to dine. Briefly, she spun around and asked Cronk. “Would you like to sit next to me while we eat?” She awaited his reply before going to check out the variety of foods available. She focused more on the non German foods, hoping to try as many new delicacies as she could while away from home.
Once again left to his own devices, Vor had taken to the books with fervor to try and find something before the arranged lunch. While it seemed like a casual event instead of a planned meeting, there was an ache in his gut that told him it would be best to attend. He also knew it was best not to close himself from the others and actually converse. It wouldn’t show his kinds ways well if he only revealed the aloofness many had.
Speaking of, he looked to his wrist for the time and was shocked how much had passed. It was a good thing the Baron wouldn’t be there.
Putting his small pile of books back where they belonged and organizing his scattered notes, he rushed towards the café.
Cronk was delighted that Pretty Flower invited him to sit next to her. She was much different than the ladies with whom Cronk was familiar. Come to think of it, most of the ladies on the team were. However, despite her size, Cronk was quite taken with Lorem. She didn’t allow her height to keep her from accomplishing big things, as Cronk knew his weakness in thinking, but didn’t allow it from entering into discussions.
“Cronk sit with Pretty Flower,” he affirmed with a nod and broad smile.
The aroma of the food nearly brought Cronk to salivation. Cronk had a broad taste in food. He’d try it all. He was certain the Norwegian food was cooked for his preference. He’d have some of it, especially since he hadn’t had it prepared properly while in Ireland, but he would enjoy the other nationalities as well. Of course, Cronk would settle for whiskey, trying some of the French bourbon.
Elizabeth looked around at the gathered group before responding to Jackal. "I believe Mr. Aster should be a long shortly. I do not know what has become of Mr. Dumont but he does know about lunch. Let us order drinks and give the others just a few minutes to join us, before beginning. If they do not arrive shortly we will begin eating. There is certainly plenty of food." Elizabeth was trying to not be rude but also not keep people or the staff waiting that long.
Dr. Jackal was sitting opposite of Cronk and Lorem with no one next to him. He rather preferred it that way in the end since he still had reservations of getting to close to others. For now he did his best to act courteous and respectful to his teammates, but at the end of the day he preferred his alone time. As an "employee/indentured servant" under Lady Elizabeth his skills were in demand to aid her and the Order, however he knew the line was drawn there. He doubted the others wanted him to be there for his charming smiled and winning personality. After all he was the host of a rampaging demonic monster who could go off when angered. This meant friends and lovers were no longer available to him, not that he had many of those in the past. So he would appreciate the things in life that were still available to him such as lab work, fine clothing, fine dining, bathing, posh beds, public transportation and of course gourmet coffee. Life was not going to be easy for him, but now it was bearable and he planned to take time to enjoy what he could have back in his life. He sipped his gourmet coffee and closed his eyes as he let the flavors soak into his mouth and throat.
Dr. Jackal then spoke up as if he was talking to himself, "I find it sad that the Baron lacks the wisdom to appreciate what he already has in his possession in his quest for gaining more. I find it sinful to overlook such fine gourmet coffee like this after going through the trouble purchase it. One might wonder what else goes on under his nose since he seems easily distracted by his station." Dr. Jackal sipped his coffee and then realized he was speaking out loud and then replied, "Opps...... I spoke my private thoughts out loud. I guess this coffee made me to happy to suppress my inner thoughts. I do apologize for the ramblings of an old mad scientist such as myself." Then Dr. Jackal fanned himself before sipping his coffee again.
