Voah sat down on the floor next to Gonyaul and carefully handed the hefty egg to him.
“Do you recall learning about the Skara from Naravas?” Voah asked with a nod and raised eyebrows.
Gonyaul treated the egg like he was holding something fragile and precious. It had a lot more weight to it than he anticipated. His dark eyes were scanning over every inch of its surface area memorizing the details of this never before seen object.
He nodded to her question, not yet connecting the dots that this egg was a Skara egg. He had imagined that they were born in a different way, reserving eggs for avian and reptile creatures.
Voah spoke with excitement as she recounted part of the tale, “The rumors that we heard before leaving Desdem were true. Giant scorpions… Skara still live in the desert. This is one of their eggs. The dark robes brought two barrels of them to that war camp. We followed them into the night. They are in league with at least one witch, possibly two if we include the one who resides here in the Temple. I believe the witch in the desert used blood magik to enchant a Skara to hatch from one of these eggs. As if she was speeding up its development. I plan on digging up more information on the creatures.”
She paused, giving Gonyaul time to comment or ask questions.
Gonyaul was dumbfounded. The egg in his hands belonged to the giant creatures depicted in stone relief. He imagined them to be very dangerous. Fantastic, he literally was holding danger in his hands. It was comical in timing of their previous talk to have Voah put danger into his lap.
In addition, Voah’s account … better late than never … sounded like a fantasy story. He knew she was speaking truth despite how strange it all sounded.
“Life with you is very interesting.” He smirked and playfully nudged her with his shoulder.
“Where you think find more information? Is Alcuin still help you? You have any more plans for the war camp and witches?”
Voah bit her lip and scratched her head at his questions and comment about life with her, assuming that ‘interesting’ was putting it nicely.
“I don’t yet know where to look for information except the lair they came from, but there must be more eggs in town if they were being transported from here… As for Alcuin, we are taking a few days off. I expect you were right when you urged me not to trust him so easily. There is something more about the man that he hasn’t been sharing. And the witches… that is something you and I need to discuss.”
