Oshar was out of breath. He had not yet fully recovered his strength and the work of this evening had taken its toll. He climbed in through the open window of his attic hideaway and collapsed to the ground. Rolling onto his back to stare up at the beams near the ceiling. He took three deeep steadying breaths and closed his eyes for a moment.
"An impressive show you put on tonight Oshar Ka'hareth."
The assassin cursed at the sound of the familiar female voice but made no effort to move from his prone position.
"We are pleased to see you too Oshar." said the voice wryly.
"Why are you here?" Oshar asked, his eyes remaining closed.
"To watch... and to report." there came a small creek from the chair near the fireplace, Oshar slowly opened his eyes and tilted his head to see the petite hooded figure who was sat staring down at him. Her features were hidden by shadow, but he knew them well.
"...and what have you seen?" Oshars question was answered by a quiet giggle.
"Oh Bachi*, I have seen much, but there is no time for stories. I am here with a message."
"Speak." Oshar ordered.
"Your next name has left the confines of this settlement and travels toward our home, as do many others it would seem."
"A convergence of purpose?" Oshar asked.
"Perhaps." the intruder agreed. "I have details of the name and their chosen route. I would suggest you leave this place soon."
She reached into the folds of her tunic and plucked out a small scroll. Leaning over she placed it carefully on the nearby table.
"The name will not go far." Oshar sat up with a quiet groan, his injured arm was in agony from the efforts of the evening.
She giggled again, "Neither will you if you do not hurry. The guards are making a house to house search."
"Will you be joining me?" Oshar asked hopefully and there was a long moment of silence.
"No. No I think not."
She was moving then. Standing up from the chair she walked to the same window through which he had entered. Climbing up she turned and paused.
"Good night Bachi, and good luck."
