Desert Ruins

Pilgrimage of Bones

Islana and Madaya made the perilous trip down the cliff, along the narrow eroded path, pressing themselves as close to the stone as they could. In some parts the pathway was so narrow that any false step would send them crashing down to her deaths against the jagged rocks below.

They made it to the valley floor after one long hour and just before the sun dropped low over the horizon. The waning moon's light hardly shone that here and it was darker than anything Islana has experienced in a long time.

The ruins loomed up ahead in the dying light. Whatever this place had been in the past Islana could not tell. She felt Madaya's small frame pressed against her legs. The young girl was quiet. The quite she had been since Islana had found her.

Long dark walls, most of them crumbled and broken extended far into the valley, buried beneath layers and layers of silt and sand blown from the desert above.

There were no buildings left standing that she could see, only parts of walls and pillars, some still standing others fallen, having crumbled into dust long ago.

Looking around she sees no tracks on the ground. The valley is silent apart for blowing wind that whistles past both. Even Kaithak seemed to have gone quiet.

Night is falling. Maybe you can find something to burn in the ruins and make a fire...
