Recalculating … Recalculating
JP with Omni and Lorem:
They had been traveling southwest for a couple of days and were getting to a point where they would need to make a decision. How did they want to move forward and where exactly? Did they want to take the risk of relying on their combined skills with what little they had, hoping it would be enough … or … would it be wiser to acquire more supplies and resources that would make surviving easier for the long term? Either way was risky, neither good nor bad, it just depended on how one framed it.
Gonyaul inquired of Voah during their next break. “We meet goal of distancing from Odsier and direction of Purger. I think we need talk new goal to seek now?”
Voah thought for a moment.
“Alas, I am no true survivalist… I know enough to hunt and forage while traveling from one settlement to the next… but surviving for months in one place in the wilds…”
She shook her head.
“There is so much I don’t know. It’s lucky that Kupen and Cambena have graced us with beautiful weather these last few days.
But we are not yet far enough from the Purger to build our own tent or home. We will need survival supplies, more distance, and we have to avoid the war. I doubt any of the natives will be friendly with the war on.
The reach of the Inquisition is long. They could be here in no time if we aren’t careful. They can send messages carried by pigeons quicker than we can ride. If I go into any settlement or if I’m recognized by anyone, they will locate me. Both settlements could already know that I have defected. But no one will be looking for YOU,”
Voah painted a distressing picture regarding the Inquisiton’s reach. In addition, a war that could combust from anywhere or anyone, perpetuating hate and destruction, was disheartening. It gave him goosebumps thinking about it. A sliver of hope though was created by her idea. Still risky, but clever and possibly effective.
“I think right. So need things. I know two places, Aquilo and Greyriver lands. Though Aquilo not sure how is now? Greyriver close to Ostiarium.”
Maybe Voah had other options or perhaps a preference.
They really were the only options if they wanted to get everything from one place.
“We should try for Aquilo first and only Ostiarium as a last resort, though undoubtedly the city would have better supplies.
We have to assume that the word has spread. That means you might have to go alone into the settlement. If it can be done safely.
If we head for Aquilo, we may be able to barter for the things. A saddle, tents, hides, bow and arrows… I still have pearls that the Odonine prize highly.
I fear our only other choices are raiding in the night.”
