Preparations and Prayers

Alexis grimly focused on aiding with the fortifications around the forges, aiding with sharpening tent poles and ramming them into the ground.

She still planned to shoot the few arrows time might allow her to from the alleviating position on the roof before she would have to retreat back into cover. So she took a moment to check if that was even possible, and where to position herself up there as well as the best point to descend in a hurry.

Gonyaul embraced Voah with the same passion that she imprinted in her kiss. He inscribed the sweet taste of her lips upon his taste buds and memory. He cherished the scent of the breath that they shared. When they finally released one another he could already feel a yearning to draw close again.

Gonyaul was so thankful for that moment. In all honesty it may be there last. He continued helping Voah with the preparations, wanting to be in her presence for as long as he could before the chaos may drive, or demand, them apart.

As they toiled on a pit trap, Voah shook the hair out of her eyes.

“Your reflexes are quick, Gonyual… like a rabbit, nnn? Maybe you can dodge these horsemen and use your disarming skills. It could get some better weapons for these men. Perhaps another bow. Or some spears to throw.”

She picked up a rock and looked at it.

“How is your aim?”

He smirked bashfully when he heard his pet name, rabbit. The way that word rolled off her tongue made him think of …. He shook his head to clear out his cuddle bunny imagination. He needed to focus.

He looked at the rock. “I think good. Why?”. When you get bored as a kid in a jungle, isolated from all other civilizations, you spend time throwing things at stuff to pass the time when you aren’t in training.

She tossed it up and down feeling the heft of the rock and raised her eyebrows, suggesting he could use them as weapons.

He watched her assessing the rock and it finally made sense. She wanted him to throw the rocks as projectiles at people. “Good idea to try.” He wouldn’t try to harm, but he could at least cause distractions or disarm. Gonyaul went to retrieve a satchel from Nicolaus’s wagon and began collecting some rocks that looked aerodynamic and threatening enough in mass.

He came back to her when he was satisfied he had enough and the satchel weight wouldn’t hinder him from moving. He showed her quickly before getting back to work aiding her.

“Voah” he said to get her attention. “Perhaps when pray before fight, hold hands with me so I can do with you?” His tone was cautious, based on how she reacted last time. He didn’t understand this prayer thing yet, but he could try being a part of one and see what that was like.

A soft smile graced the edges of her lips, “…I would like that very much.”

She wanted to teach him everything she knew of the world and learn what he had to teach.

She took a couple of the rocks for herself and kept working. They had maybe half an hour left to complete what they could.

Gonyaul signed thank you and continued digging with a pleased expression. While it made no sense to him, yet, it was important to her. And if it was important to her than he decided it was important to him.

Not long after, Voah found a place and knelt down, it wasn’t very comfortable but that was sort of the point.

She entwined with Gonyaul’s hands and gently guided him in prayer.

“For the sake of our circumstances, I will have to be brief in my explanation. It is customary to show some form of offering, sacrifice, suffering or subservience to the higher powers.

I don’t know how much you know about the Pillars, the Gods of Mizar. There are several but myself and my people primarily worship the main five: Cambena, Hoi, Kupen, Vastad and Zin.

Each of them has dominion over some part in our lives. Listen to my words and take them into your heart and mind and soul. May they lend you confidence, a sense of duty, or something to strive towards. May they grow your faith in what cannot directly be observed. You can close your eyes if you want to.”

Voah didn’t close hers, she remained kneeling, looking at his eyes.

“Cambena, Goddess of Sea and Storms, we beseech thee. Lend us your wrath against the grips of these men and break the chains that would bind us.

Kupen, God of the Sky, grant us your all seeing vigilance in this dark night.

Vastad, may the struggle be in our favor and may this fight end with the least amount of bloodshed. For all of our sakes mighty God of War, there is more than steel and blood that can defeat an enemy.

Hoi, Goddess of Sex and Fertility, I feel your Grace has already blessed us, but lend us the vigor and the drive to stay alive and return to one another after all is done.

Zinheim, lord of death and time. If this be our final hour, let our deaths come swiftly… and may we be together in your Garden.”

Arrows began to rain down nearby.
