A Chaotic Call

Whiskers called Nelly a bad mother.

With the cat settled in, Kiana got on the tinder app for a hookup.

Sorley stared at his phone, trying to think of something to text Gelf about.

It would be hours later when Gelf would send Sorley a picture of herself with the pig, Herbert. The text with it would say: “Herbert and I say hi! How are you?”

Sorley spent quite a bit of time gazing at Gelf’s picture. He began to think that the blue socks were dull compared to her eyes. She was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. He hoped she would continue to be his friend, a guy like him was unworthy of anything more. “I’m okay, making dinner. How are you?”

That was when Gelf finally called him.

Sorley was so startled that he dropped the phone, not realizing that he managed to answer it before the phone hit the floor. In his panic to pick up the phone he accidentally hit the phone instead of grabbing it and sent the phone skidding under the stove. “Oh no…” since Sorley's phone was no longer ringing he guessed that Gelf had hung up. “You're such a loser, no wonder she doesn't really want to talk to you.” He berated himself as he reached for the wooden spoon off the stove top to try fishing the phone out from under the stove.

“Hello?” Gelf’s voice could be heard from under the stove. “Herbert, do you think he dropped the phone? I did call abruptly. CARLA! GET OFF THAT, YOU STUPID CHICKEN!” There was a lot of banging, some squealing from Herbert and the sound of feathers flapping.

“Uh, hello!” Sorley tried to cast his voice under the stove. “I'm sorry, I dropped my phone under the stove!”

“Ohhhh, okay! I guess I surprised you!” Gelf giggled before having to yell at both her pets again. “I told you two to stop doing that! Do you want to lose your other eye, Carla! Crazy chicken!”

Sorley thought he was pulling the phone out from under the stove but when it came into view he saw that it was… something of Kiana’s… He shoved the object away with his wooden spoon and resumed trying to get his phone, he was beginning to think he would need to move the stove. “I love to hear your…” Sorley blushed. “I’m glad you called. I wish I hadn’t dropped my phone.”

“Take your time! I’ve got nowhere to be and - damn it, Carla - and all I’ve got going on is animal chaos here!” Gelf said with a laugh.

“Got it!” Sorley finally got the phone out from under the stove and victoriously held the phone to his ear. “I’m not doing much, just put the macaroni and cheese in the oven.” Sorley sat on the floor, leaning back against the oven.

“Macaroni and cheese? I LOVE THAT!” Gelf blurted. “Oops, sorry…got a bit over excited there.”

“You do?” Sorley asked, perking up at having stumbled across something Gelf liked. “I made plenty of extra if you want to come over for dinner…” He blushed deeply.

“Well, I could…but I don’t wanna leave Herbert and the menace, Carla, alone.” Gelf mused. “Would it be okay if I brought them?”
