A New Day For Dreaming

Sorley might have been dreaming about Gelf when he was woken up by the call from Gelf. “Good morning.” He said sleepily.

“Hi, cutie!” Gelf said cheerfully. “Did you sleep well?”

“Yeah.” Sorley smiled. “How are you?”

“Pretty good. I slept deeply.” Gelf replied. “I got a good bit unpacked.”

“That’s good.” Sorley sat up in bed.

“Honestly, I’m not sure I want to stay in an apartment, though. I’ve always wanted a farm.” Gelf said as she moved around her place and started up some coffee. “What kind of place do you ever imagine living in?”

“I don’t know.” Sorley had never thought about it. “Maybe someplace near water, a beach or even just a creek or pond.”

“I bet a farm can have one!” Gelf chimed.

Sorley nodded. “Yeah, especially if there are ducks…”

“Oh, you like ducks too?!” Gelf sounded even more interested now.

“Uh…” Sorley had heard some really horrifying things about ducks.

“What is it?” Gelf asked.

“Uh, ducks can be… not very nice.” Sorley blushed.

“Oh, I know, but if you raise them right, they can be awesome!” Gelf explained. “Ohhh, coffee’s done!”

“They have, uh…” Sorley blushed deeply and hoped the topic was changed.

“What kind of coffee do you usually drink? I love it black.” Gelf went on and she could be heard happily drinking hers.

I usually add some cream and sugar…” Sorley wondered if Gelf could see him as any less manly as she already did.

“That’s never a bad thing.” Gelf said. “We all have our own personal tastes.” She did not sound disappointed or bothered in the least. “Herbert, don’t try to eat that! Silly pig!”

“Who is Herbert?” Sorley wondered if he was Gelf’s boyfriend or even husband. Skorn had implied that Gelf was looking for someone but why should a woman as perfect as Gelf settle for just one man?

“He’s my pet pig.” Gelf said with a giggle.

“Oh.” Sorley felt guilty for feeling relieved. “You have him in an apartment?”

“For now, yeah. I don’t like it, but Herbert has been with me since he was a piglet.” Gelf replied. “I want to get a farm so he can live free and happy!”

Sorley smiled. “I hope you get it.”

“I just gotta get the money and I know how to do that,” Gelf said, the grin practically in her voice. Teleportation had a LOT of perks.

Sorley innocently tilted his head, wondering what Gelf meant. “If you need any help…”

“Oh, don’t you worry one bit about helping me.” Gelf said before a small clock alarm went off. “Well, I gotta go. Text me, okay?”

“I want to help you.”Sorley said, and his voice fell. “Okay… thanks for talking to me.”

“I’ll call you tonight and maybe we can schedule lunch or something? If you want?” Gelf suggested in a cheerful and hopeful tone.

“I’d love to have lunch with you.” Sorley brightened.

There was a happy little squeal. “Yay! I’ll call you tonight then!” She said gleefully. “Talk to you later, handsome. Mmmwah!” The line went dead.

Sorley stared at his phone for a long time before putting it down.

The bird, Nelly, would swoop in and sit on her eggs, watching Sorley now.

Sorley was wondering if he should come up with something to text Gelf when he was startled by his sister’s shout. He hopped out of bed and hurried to the door.
