Nilima Has A Lot To Learn (Pt 3)

“Women’s ward?” Nilima asked, no men?

“Yeah. It’s safe here, no one will hurt you here. It’s not like MegaCorp.” Haven said.

Yule nodded as they stepped out of the medical ward and joined Skorn. “You can go if you want to, Skorn.” She said, waving a hand as he smoked his cigarette.

“I wanted to show her around…” He grumbled.

Yule just gave him a look. “Shoo…”

Skorn shrugged and walked down the hall, passing other metas and humans that were mingling around and walking by.

“Sorry about him,” Yule said to Nilima. “He just likes to help.”

“I told him I didn’t need any medical help.” Nilima said. She did not like Skorn one bit.

“He’s just following the rules,” Yule pointed out. “He looks…scary, but he’s actually really nice once you get to know him.” He had been kind to her and Haven, always doing things for them that they couldn’t do. The man was kind of nice to stare at, too, when he didn’t have a shirt on. That was the most Yule would do, though. She didn’t ever want to be touched by a man again.

Nilima looked around to make sure no one would eavesdrop. “You’re okay with him thinking you're lesbians?” She asked.

Yule shrugged. “We don’t want any men touching us, so we don’t mind. Saves us from having to let guys down.” She explained. “He might know we’re not, but I think he plays along to make us more comfortable.”

“What- they just let you be?” Nilima could not believe it.

Yule nodded in sync with Haven. “Why wouldn’t they? The Underground is safe. We’re even being taught self-defense.” She explained.

“Because you won’t have any babies that way.” Nilima thought it was obvious. It was so clear in the Amihan Manifesto.

“I don’t want babies…” Yule said, confused. There were enough women here that happily had babies anyway.

“But we’re supposed to have babies. To outnumber the baselines…” Though Nilima avoided getting pregnant by taking pills someone smuggled into her room. She still did not know where the pills came from. She never wanted to give birth to a child to continue the cycle of abuse in Amihan.

Haven’s eyes widened. “What? Where are you from?”

“Amihan…” Nilima said softly.

That explained a lot. “This place isn’t like them,” Yule explained and hugged herself. “We have a choice here. The only rules are that we don’t use our powers on each other unless it’s in the training room. In there we get to practice and work to have better control over our powers.”

Haven thought that Amihan must be as bad as she had heard. The way this girl was acting she thought Nilima was from a MegaCorp breeding program.

“Oh.” Nilima had a lot to get used to. Like actually being safe.
