Little Love Birds...Or Cat And Merman?

Everyone at the other tables was chatting cheerfully and enjoying their food, which was all the more reason Gelf was happy she’d chosen this place. Looking over the menu, she hummed for a moment. “I’ll get their spicy lobster mac and cheese with a small side of green beans and some mashed potatoes. What do you wanna get?” She asked and kept looking, eyes shining at the dessert menu. “Ohhh, they have a lava cake we can share!”

“Fish and chips. I think I’ll get cheese fries with it.” He smiled at how Gelf’s eyes lit up. He’d give her a dozen lava cakes all for herself just to see her eyes light up like that.

The waiter happily took their order when he brought their drinks over and made his way to turn it in, including that yummy lava cake!

“So, how have things been at home lately?” Gelf asked as adjusted her dress a little.

“Good.” Sorley had moved into the Underground not long after taking the job. He felt guilty about making Kiana being stuck with the rent and living alone, but he did not want her interfering with his relationship with Gelf. He did give her money to pay for his half of the rent for several months, hopefully she would find another roommate soon.

“How is Kiana? Still mad about our accident that first time we met?” Gelf was curious. She had wanted to mend the relationship with Kiana, but the red head only seemed to see the pinkette as some bitch that was going to trap Sorley.

Sorley shrugged. “She can be a very suspicious person. Girls don't always have an easy time in the foster system.” Or boys, Sorley avoided talking about his own experience in the foster system.

Gelf had her doubts about it just having to do with being in foster care, but she decided to change the subject. “Aside from work, what do you do when you’re relaxing lately?” She asked. It was time she got to listen to him talk more.

“I really like water.” Sorley said. “There’s a lake near the underground that I go to.”

“I have a lake near my farm that I own.” Gelf blurted before blushing.

“You do?” Now Sorley’s eyes lit up. “How big is it?”

“I haven’t been to it yet, but from the pictures it looks pretty huge.” Pulling out her phone, she showed Sorley the pictures of her farm and the lake.

Sorley gazed at the pictures. “Wow, it looks really deep.”

“I don’t remember how deep they told me it was, but when I bought it, I was informed it’s all mine because it’s on the land I now own.” Gelf chimed.

“You bought wisely. It’s a beautiful lake.” Sorley almost sounded reverent.

“Well, I wanted a place where Herbert and Carla could run around with other animals and be happy. Plus, I like the comfort of the outdoors it brings and…it’s a home. If I ever get married, I can raise children there.” Gelf said with a genuine smile.

Sorley blushed beet red at that. He hoped Gelf found a good man to marry her and give her children. He wished it could be him.

Gelf hoped Sorley would be that future husband, but was not going to jump the gun like that. Before she could talk more their food arrived and the waiter happily refilled their drinks. “Thank you,” she said politely. “Hmmm, the food smells great!”

“Yeah.” Sorley said, recovering from the thought of Gelf married to some other man. Sorley hated this hypothetical man and hoped he made Gelf happy.

“I honestly don’t picture myself with anyone else in the future,” She admitted before cutting some of her food and taking a bite. “Mmmm, yummy!”

Sorley froze, holding a fry halfway to his mouth. Did Gelf mean…?

Gelf noticed Sorley’s look and blinked. “What?” She asked.

“Uh, nothing.” Sorley blushed and stuffed the fry in his mouth.

Gelf couldn’t help but giggle. “You’re so silly sometimes. It’s sweet.”

Sorley’s blush deepened, but he smiled. He opened his mouth to ask her to pass the ketchup but instead he blurted “I love you.”
