Life In MegaCorp (Pt. 4)

“The pen, Tzeitel.” Cook said, taking note that she hadn't set it down when she was done with the letter.

Tzeitel looked at the pen, she had started to slip it up her sleeve. “C’mon…. I should be able to get out if I choose to.”

“The pen, Tzeitel.” Cook insisted. “You know what Thrane will do if you keep it…” He didn’t want to see him strap her down again.

Tzeitel’s shoulders slumped, her fingers tightening around the pen. “Please,” she pleaded. “I can't keep living like this.” Tzeitel still had little faith in surviving labor, and was pretty sure if she did survive she would be impregnated again. She hated being pregnant, a constant reminder of what was done to her.

Cook hated doing this.

Getting up, he walked over to her and took her wrist gently with one hand, tightening enough to let her know he meant business. “Let go of the pen, Tzeitel. Please.” He said in a serious but calm tone. He did not wish to harm her and he hated touching her without her consent, but he could not risk her doing something with the pen. “Loreen has made an agreement so you won’t be touched by any of the men again after this.”

They all knew Thrane had agreed to this just to piss off Canestone, too. Thrane loved to irritate that bastard.

Tzeitel dropped the pen, shaking with sobs. “Thrane's a liar. It will happen again if I survive this.”

“You know Loreen will protect you,” Cook told her as he released her wrist and grabbed up the pen. Taking it, he grabbed up the letter and hid them both in his jacket. “We’re doing all we can to protect you, Tzeitel. Please, believe that…”

“It's not enough. If you could do it I’d be out already.” Tzeitel wept.

“Things aren’t easy for any of us that want to help…” Cook admitted as he stared at Tzeitel with sympathy. It still hurt so much to see her like this. “Just know you’ve got a sister out there trying to reach you.”

With a sigh, he left to let her rest for the night. They would have a special camera in the room to keep an eye on her in case she went into labor.

It felt good to know that Klaire had not abandoned her and was still looking… But Tzeitel was very lonely in here. She gathered some more blankets from the bed and pillows, and along with the nice soft blanket Cook gave her, Tzeitel built a nest under the desk and tried in vain to get comfortable.

Tzeitel managed to doze off, but was soon met by nightmares.
