Alex and Abe Talk
Alex carefully pulled the glowing hot metal from the forge before setting it on the anvil. He was happy that they got everyone they could out but knew it wasn't over. “Let's see how difficult this metal will be” he whispered picking up a hammer. Supposedly it should cut through Canestone’s skin so Alex figured a dagger would be a good experiment.
“Perhaps Klaire can give it to Tzeitel as a gift” he spoke before bringing the hammer down the force making a loud clang as he worked the metal.
As he continued to work he grabbed a bottle of water and poured it on himself to cool down.
A man, tall and dark skinned, would walk in and set down a barrel for Alex. “Here’s that specialized metal I told you about.” He said in a calm tone. Alex would know him as Abraham, River’s father and one of the few experts in metals.
“Thanks Abraham I'm working on a dagger for Tzeitel after I'm finished I'm going to upgrade Klaire’s arsenal.” Alex replied while wiping his brow “how's River doing?”
“She’s doing exceptionally well thanks to Delilah’s training.” Abraham admitted with a smile. “She’s more confident and able to walk around without the choker on now. Mark and Delilah are like an aunt and uncle to her. She also said to give you these.” He had a slight smirk as he set the berries down for Alex. They were what made the moonshine the men loved so much.
“You'll have to give her my thanks” Alex smiled “we rescued Riley on our last mission i wonder if they've met yet.”
“They have…” Abraham grumbled with a shake of his head. “Girl fell in love at first sight.”
“You don't sound too happy about that” Alex chuckled while inspecting the dagger.
“She’s my daughter,” Abraham grumbled again, staring at Alex. “Would you be over the moon seeing your child get gawked at by all the men in a place when she walked around?”
“Fair enough but I think they learned their lesson after she turned several of them into trees” he replied “Riley could use a friend after everything he went through” As he worked he wondered how Loreen will respond to a rival.
Abraham just grumbled and got to work on his weapons. He always stuck with Alex because it was easier than trying to socialize.
“Listen all bravado aside I'm worried about Riley unlike the others he was never let out on hunts just locked up his entire life” Alex spoke in a serious tone. “I'm family but he's doesn't know me i want to try to get him help but I don't know how to breach that topic.”
“I suggest being straightforward with him.” Abraham said calmly. “Most metas locked up like that have faced lies all their life. They need honesty and people that won’t beat around the bush. Just…be gentle.”
“Do you think it'll help having someone he's familiar with? He asked.
“Yes,” Abraham replied as he melted down some of the specialized metal.
“Thanks now I just got to talk Loreen or River then” Alex said putting the blade aside as he began to work on the handle.
“I’ll talk to River,” Abraham said and kept working the night away.
Alex nodded in thanks and focused on his work.
