Snapping Bone
A knife sank into the neck of the raccoon Stella had caught up to, making the end to its life as quick as possible. Her bone knife was sharp enough to slice through a finger without much pressure, so she was proud to see the animal had not suffered in her assault.
Logic spoke to her, saying this was wrong, but it was such a small fragment within that she barely gave it the time of day. Her fingers tightened onto the knife handle and she pulled the blade free before glancing around with her crimson eyes. No one was about as far as she could tell, so she felt almost safe.
Almost.
The world was never safe the aftermath of The Cataclysm, something her father had instilled in her years ago when she was but a small child. Her fingers got to work, hands maneuvering the knife to skin the animal properly. It was a simple task for someone who had done this for years, but she was still highly aware of her surroundings, straining all of her senses.
That was when she heard the voice.
"Fruit."
It was only one word, but made Stella's blood run cold as she tightened her grip once more. This simple reaction was enough to make one of the raccoon's bones snap loudly.
