Avocado

Nataya stood up quickly, facing the direction of the sound she'd just heard. Her companion did the same, nearly in unison. Their synchronization faltered when the Doe's ears flattened and she ran off, ducking between trees as she fled. Nataya grabbed a small avocado from the ground and put in her mouth, her teeth barely sinking into the skin of the fruit to keep it stationary. She reached upwards, grasping a thick branch of a nearby tree, and pulled herself up. She climbed a few feet higher until she could press her back against the trunk and blend in. Slowly, she peeled the avocado and took a bit, scanning the ground below for threats.
