Skye Life - No Pets Indeed Part 3
“Cyd… “ Serena said softly, opening the door. “This is Vas. Vas, this is my sister, Cyd. Not by birth. I found her. Actually I found Mathias. Mathias is the same as Cyd by birth, an’ you sorta met him already. You can’t meet Isaac on account of he’s in lock up and we don’t have enough credits to get him out.”
Cyd scowled at Serena, but offered a tiny smile to Vas. “I’ve heard… well, nothing about you,” She kidded, stepping aside to let them out.
Vas trail behind Serena worse for wear. He didn’t know how to respond to Cyd but there was a something in him that thought the was a good thing. Vas let Serena guide him to the living room where he took a seat, which was good because he was still getting dizzy just from standing.
“So, care to share?” Cyd continued. “Serena here says you told her not to talk about where you’re both from, ever, is that true?”
Vas looke to Serena and back to Cyd. “I … maybe? If she says so then it would say yes.”
Mathias was in the kitchen rooting around for a drop of anything alcoholic so he could a get a free pass from sorting out this mess.
“Are you hungry?” Cyd asked the quiet boy, who couldn’t have been much older than Isaac.
“I’m …” Vas started and paused the words feeling familiar. “ … I’m always hungry.”
“They only give ‘em protein bars an’ shakes. Strawberry is the best one,” Serena remembered out loud. “On account of it’s pink. But he loves noodles from vending machines.”
“Three things I don’t have,” Cyd said apologetically. “Protein paste sandwich or nothing?”
“Sandwich?” Vas said hopefully. Now that they were talking about food he was starting to realize how hungry he was.
“Coming right up,” Cyd said automatically - an occupational hazard from working in a diner. “Mathias! While you’re in there, can you make our ‘guest’ a sandwich? The vodka was moved to my room.”
Matthias poked his head out of the kitchen and gave Cyd a withering look that was ignored.
Serena sat on the floor by the lumpy recliner, leaning her head against Vas’ leg. “See Puppy? No yelling,” She assured him.
“Yet!” Cyd added under her breath.
