The Ironwood Rave: Trick
Ironwood had a house DJ - DJ Momentum. He’d been there since Cyd was a kid, but kept himself current by donning an electronic mask made from an old, old computer CRT monitor. He’d rigged it so it would flash different things throughout the party - a smiley face, winking eyes, words like Turn it Up, Wook or Bassface. He could work a crowd, but not work a crowd like Olin. They’d shown up early, Mathias needed to make sure to comp Momentum for the night, in exchange for an exclusive to sell at the rave. Cyd wasn’t letting him go anywhere alone for a while, she, Serena and her hobo friend arrived just as early.
“See? You’ll fit right in!” Olin beamed looking for a particular shade of aqua in the crowd.
“Yes.” Varan said dryly. “Behold, my peers.”
Vas was still not used to the booms sounds, funny smells, flashing light or the way people got wat to touchy feely. He very much preferred his spot by the wall making kandi. He had started with pony bead but had move to adding complex knots bracelets with shoolage he would pillage and clean. Also it gave him a good place to keep an eye on Serena. He didn’t get it but it make Serena happy so he supposed that was important to him too.
Serena still wore her shoelace necklace - even if Vas didn’t remember it or her, and it sat on top of her bikini top that belonged once to Cyd. Mathias had taken it in for her while he fixed his jacket, to her own chagrin, she had the build of an 11 year old boy, but that didn’t stop the pigtailed raver from trying to accentuate what she did have.
Cyd shuffled in time to the music, cutting shapes in a new pattern she’d practiced earlier in the week, trying to coax Serena to shuffle with her, but Serena had her eye on a newcomer with a large neck tattoo. His lip was pierced and his long dark hair was tied back in a single ponytail. The teen desperately wanted to get closer to him.
Vas look from Serena to Neck Tattoo back to Serena and then back to Neck Tattoo and decided to instantly hate the man. Luckily the sun glasses prevent his glare from being evident. “Don’t you wanna hang around Mathias?” Vas suggested hoping to divert her away from he bizarre fascination with neck tattoos.
“He’s working,” She said absently, playing with the shoelace necklace as she made eyes with the boy. “He’d tell me to go away. You can go hang around him though.”
She made her way over to the man, who smiled, taking the time to glance up and down.
“You’re new!” She told him.
“Not from the sprawl,” he said as he lit a cigarette, and took a long hard pull.
“Me either!” Serena said, trying not to cough from the smoke he blew in her face. “I mean, I am now, but originally I wasn’t. I mean, I’m from somewhere of course, just not here to start out with, but we live here now. I mean, I live here now.”
He chuckled at her nervous rambling, his eyes drifting to a leggy brunette in a pair of chaps with just a thong bikini beneath them. Serena followed his eyes and scowled. Mathias would have kittens if she tried to leave the house like that.
Might be a good way to get a cat! she rationalized, trying to regain his attention. “I’m Cottontail, LIke the rabbit. Not because… any other reason.”
“Trick.” He replied, swinging his eyes back her way.
“I like your tattoo, did it hurt?” She asked, pointing to his neck.
“Naw,” he said, letting out another puff of smoke, “Not as much as another one I got. He leaned over and whispered something in her ear that made the teen laugh.
“Wait, really?” She asked, and he nodded ticked his head for her to follow.
“C’mon,” he said, grinding the smoke out underneath his boot. “I’ll show you.”
