Skye Life: Vas's 1st Rave Part 2- The Rabbit and The Hellhound
Vas shook his head. He wasn’t much for stringing beads, or talking to strangers for that matter. “How old were you when you went to you first one?”
“Ten. It was right after you…” Serena scowled, and went back to painting his face. “I was ten. But I like talking to strangers,” she reminded him.
Vas tried to hold still and curiosity got the better of him. “You never really talk about it. Anything before … all this.”
“Well duh,” she said matter of fact, lowering her voice. “You made me promise not to.”
“I mean. Does that mean you can’t talk to me about it?” Vas prodded.
“I dunno. You made me promise, so I guess it’s up to you,” Serena shrugged as she put the make up case back under the sink. “You said it wasn’t safe.”
“To talk about it? Whatever happened before?” Vas said feeling the nervous knot in his belly.
“Yeah huh,” Serena said, not making eye contact with him as she tied one more neon ribbon into a pigtail. “We should go, Cyd gets all Cyd-like if I’m late.”
Vas nodded not sure if he wanted to press the subject. Part of him was dying to know just anything to fill the big void of nothing that was before waking up in the Skye's tub. At the same time … if he had made her promise such a thing and she was taking it so seriously maybe some things were better left buried. “Is there anything you can tell me?” He asked as they walked out the door.
Serena put her finger to her chin and looked up to the ceiling, contemplating. “I ate a whole lotta snack cakes on that truck.” She giggled. “An’ you called me Rabbit.”
“Yea? Well, it kinda fits you.” Vas admitted. “But you seem too tall now to be called Rabbit.”
Serena’s face crumpled. “I’m not that tall…” she said, hunching her shoulders to appear shorter. “You’re the one got too tall,” she added under her breath. “I’m still shorter relatively speaking.”
“Oh? How short were you back then?” Vas said bumping his elbow playfully against Serena.
“Cyd used to measure me an’ Isaac on the door frame, only there were termites an’ we had to get rid of the wood. You climbed a whole elevator shaft given’ me a piggyback ride though, an’ you were a lot shorter back then too,” she reminded him.
“Did I now? I dunno about the shorter part.” Vas teased. “I feel like I've always been this height.” He grinned peeking over his sunglasses.
Serena laughed. “Nuh uh, you were one of the smallest hellhounds.” Once it left her lips, she wished she could reel it back in, and with a look of panic, covered her mouth. “Stop makin’ me talk about it!” She chastised in a muffled voice.
Vas laughed. “Alright, alright … I’ll stop. I can’t help it, you know? There is just this … big blank spot where everything should be. Then sometimes I just know stuff i didn’t know I knew. Out of nowhere.” He shrugged. “But … that for another time. Tonight is rave night? Right?”
“Yes. An’ if we don’t get there soon, all the good stuff will be gone!” She said, grabbing his sleeve.
“Okay okay … were gong were going!” Vas chuckled as he spet up, Serena tugging him along.
