1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back

Jiyn must've spoken this fate into existence. The only reason he applied to go through this was to at least get the opportunity to explore the continent while also getting a paid, even if the money didn't particularly matter to him. He had until the upcoming festival was over to change the minds of sergeants here, so he came up with a plan.

First, he needed to regain the physical shape he was in before he sat mostly stagnant in a ship for 2 months. He wasn't particularly strong, but he needed his flexibility along with his quickness to truly impress.

Next was to show that he capable in the wild. Anytime there was a lowly job that needed to be done like retrieving wood from the outside camps, or anything along those lines, he'd do it. Jiyn would also offer to do more dangerous jobs inside of the keep like roof maintenance. He didn't exactly know what he was doing once he was on the roof, but they didn't seem to care as long as the leaks stopped.

And finally, he needed to become more proficient in the weapons they wanted, not the ones that made him seem more like a common thief than a soldier. He started off asking people in his division to spare. They'd take these dull blades and Jiyn would instantly go back onto his poor habits. Have a low guard, entice a swing, counter or parry, strike up close. Sure it worked on the less experienced, but Jiyn handled plenty of lowly fighters like this back in Mizar... he needed someones help.

Luckily, he saw Alexis. He knew possibly getting her blessing would go the farthest amongst the sergeants out of any of the recruits. He approached her with a beating heart. 'It was a beautiful day, but she could make it a storm if you crossed her.' Jiyn thought. He sat next to her with his hands clasped and his foot tapping. "Beautiful uh.. Piece of wood you have there, Ms... Or is it Mrs? That doesn't matter does it does it?" Jiyn laughed nervously then straightened stern and turned to her. "I need your help, if you're free of course. I'd like you to train me. Just for this week, at least?"
