Alexis was somewhat surprised to be transferred to the keep right away.
She had expected that they would observe their recruits for a while longer after integrating them into the army before deciding for which position they were best suited.
But then again, that might be more of mercenary band thing, which was less rigidly structured and a bit more ‚grown together‘.
It was just as well. She would find out soon enough what ‚directly reporting to the knights of Salos‘ implied.
And apparently she would need the extra payment, as Hendrik insisted she would be paying all the drinks.
Honestly, she didn’t mind. When you are not a gambler and stopped drinking before you pass out on the floor, money was not quite as scarce as some of her compatriots made it seem. You might not be going off having peacock as an afternoon snack, but you most certainly did not have to worry wether you could afford food and board at all.
Hopefully she could keep in touch with Hendrik. She would like that.
As for the other newcomers that tried out beside her, not much of a surprise there.
Hunter guy got what he had quite desperately aimed for, Frespit could certainly have made soldier, but she suspected the relative independence of the hunters suited him better, and the kid got a foot in. Time would tell if soldier life really suited him.
Speak of the devil, Alexis found herself pulled out of her thoughts by the kid in question.
She raised her gaze to look at Jiyn, head cocked in mild curiosity.
“Relax. I don’t bite. Just Alexis is fine. Have not been a Ms or Mrs my whole life.”
So training was what he wanted? A bit odd to ask her of all people, given that she was just as new here as he was. But yeah, he clearly wasn’t used to the weapons he was expected to handle here, and maybe he’d rather ask her than his superiors or established trainers.
Alexis herself didn’t mind a training partner, so what the heck.
“Training, ey? Sure, why not. Let me make you a deal. We get you up to form with those army weapons and you can show me one or two of those nifty dagger techniques of yours.”
