To Touch The Sky
When your vision returns and the blind flashing light disappears, Islana is standing outside the ruins looking into the sky, Wim inside standing over the altar where no vestige of a flame having ever burn can be seen and Boyce is on his knees in a corner looking at the ground. Confused you all try to piece together what just happened not sure if your experiences were shared.
There was a oneness with the sky; a sense of calmness. High above, the land stretched out below melding shapes, colors, and textures in a tapestry of various landscapes.
The swiftness of flight felt natural, as the breeze played against her long pointed wings. Her keen dark eyes constantly searched for prey, a second nature to the bird of prey.
There was no fear in her, no hesitation, it was simply what was and that had a magnificence to it. A knowledge in the fact that it didn't matter that she wasn't the largest in the sky. Being the fastest and a great hunter was something she was grateful for and proud of.
Her swoop down was far too fast for the pigeon to out maneuver. It's death comes at the end of a mid-air feat of acrobatics. The peregrine falcon would eat well.
The sun hit her eyes as the young woman came back to her senses. She could feel the ground under her feet and a soft breeze against her skin.
Ground not sky, skin not feathers. It had been a vision, but it had seemed so real. Her green eyes glanced back up towards the sky. That had been a feeling unlike any the young huntress had ever known, so much so, Islana almost didn't want to let it go.
It took her several moments to move, from where she stood. Her eyes kept turning back to the sky and then to the ground. It hadn't been real, the redhead knew that, but it had felt so natural.
Her legs moved and she walked back towards the temple. At the entrance, gazing at the two men, it became clear they had all experienced something. Islana turned her gaze back towards the sky once more with a sense of longing to return but knowing it would be to no avail.
A deep breath, a step back inside the temple but Islana didn't say anything for the moment. She just watched her friends as they began to make their own adjustments back to reality. The ever present question of - what had just happened - on Islana's mind.
