Hunting

A nearby soldier looked at the boy with the salt and asked if he could have some. Even salted pork could always use a bit more salt. Plus it made him thirsty which meant he had an excuse to drink more ale.

He listened as one of the recruits who had made a concentrated effort to hide his skills asked about rules around hunting. First time he had seen the man speak the whole morning.

"Rules? Well, don' get eaten by th' wolves or th' big cats in th' plains." He said chuckling at his own joke. "We tried eatin' th'm but the meat spoils fast and tastes like me breeches." the soldier continued.
"Most huntin' is done by bow. And slingin'. To take down smaller game." He drank the rest of his ale in one go.
"Only rule we have is to keep away from the Odsier herds." He looked at them and his voice dropped.
"But dat gonna change soon enough..." he winked at the new recruits.
