The Descent 3

JP with Voah, Alexis, Tarmen, Winteroak and Gonyaul:

The sounds and reverberations in the air told that the room they just entered was much larger than the previous one. How much larger they couldn’t tell yet. As they passed by the next archway they noted another entrance directly to their left and one a few metres to their right in the east hall. The entrance to the east appeared to be a parallel corridor to the room they were just in, leading back.

Gonyaul paused at the back and bit his lip to keep silent. He wondered if anyone else was grappling with the urge to shout and hear how the echos played out. It was probably just him.

Seeing more of the runes, the Arbiter hoped Alexis was getting as much as she could. It was fascinating. She thought of Blackwolf and how he was missing out once again, then again he could have given them more enlightenment on the situation.

Entering the room, Tarmen cautiously tested the middle of the chamber.

Gonyaul was glancing around and noticed Tarmen going to investigate the center of the new room. He had seen herds of turtles move faster than that. It was wise though to be cautious.

‘Pillars… People really lived down here.’ Voah marveled to herself. She wondered if there would be any evidence of her Gods left behind by people of old.

Alexis had decided to just keep her notebook on easy access, sketching runes as she saw them, and mapping very rudimentary. Putting a chalk arrow on the wall leading back to the room they just left, she scowled.

Not much in the ways of commodities here.

Looking to the exit just left of them, she wondered if that one might lead to the other side of the cave in.

A sloped pit lined with iron spikes lay in the centre of the room, and a set of demonic war masks hung on the east wall near the entrance Tarmen could see in the east wall. The pit was covered with a variety of skeletons; rodents, goats… and some bones he could no longer tell what they belonged to.

Peering over the edge of the pit, Tarmen only had more questions. The masks however, they had his interest.

“Seemed like a lively bunch. Certainly enjoyed some sort of sacrifice.”

He moved to inspect the masks, already sketching their design.

As Tarmen moved to the east wall to inspect the carved masks he saw another entrance on that side of the room. The masks sat between the two eastern entrances. He saw a shadow run across to his right and heard a tapping sound coming from his left.

The chamber resounded with small echoes as feet met pebble and shuffled against stone. Voah couldn’t help but think of how interesting the acoustics would sound in this room, something like a quiet cathedral.

Tarmen’s voice carried a grim message and his torchlight revealed strange visages adorning the walls.

Then came a tapping from the darkness beyond.
