Plains People

Plains north of Ostiarium

You continue your journey north. Behind you the tribe that calls itself the Ashen Hooves treks several metres behind you. You notice they number around 40 including women and children and a small herd of horses and deer nearby.

By late afternoon the older rider that spoke to you early approaches once again and tell you they will be camping nearby inviting you to share their fire.

They say you are close to the land of the prides and that you should be careful with the pack of wild lugers in this area.

You accept and watch with amazement as the natives start erecting their tents and set up camp with impressive precision. Everyone seems to have a role. Tents are raised in the blink of an eye. Dried skins wrapped around large wooden pools to the curious shape of tepees.

Children tend to animals as women start fires and get food cooking.

Alexis felt they had been exceptionally lucky to happen on this rather friendly tribe.

She could only imagine that Boyce and Nicolaus must be ecstatic for this chance. It was really a shame that they didn’t know the language better. Alexis herself only knew a few words, and even Boyce’s knowledge was barely basic. But, as always, gestures and hand signs helped to get the point across.

Watching the plains people set up their camp with natural efficiency was quite fascinating. This was their way of life, and it showed.

Getting their own camp set up, Alexis wondered what the evening would bring...
