Sentinel Island Camp - Morning - Nicolaus Cagliostro

Nicolaus watched the mixture come slowly to temperature and watched for changes in its status. Then set it to cool and separate. He absently ate some salt beef and cheese, followed by a swallow of weak ale and some form of ship's biscuit. He studied the orb from the wreck briefly, but finding no marking of any kind nor any way to sample the liquid short of shattering the glass, returned it to its pouch. His curiosity was very piqued however on how the glass was created whole without a stopper, yet contained some sort of liquid, there was a mystery.

He mind wandered as he waited back to his time at the University, in many ways so long ago. Those old fools spouting their "wisdom", “the art of medicine consists in amusing the patient while nature cures the disease” at best and at worst sin was presented as the great a cause of human illness; entering the body through the intercession of witches, warlocks, demons, imps, evil spirits and fairies, or even the act of an evil god.
He much preferred the ancient thoughtful texts he had discovered, randomly distributed throughout the great library and used them to synthesise a new approach.
A physician and philosopher, Al-Sayn ibn Zina, had written the ‘Catalogue of Medicine’, a text that had shaped much of how Nicolaus' own research had progressed. His recommendations concerning the preparation and testing of medicines argued that all medicines should be as pure as possible, unadulterated with any ingredients which could cause harm or otherwise detract from its quality. It was how Nicolaus had shaped his trials for drugs, trying all medicines against more than one disease, since their efficacy could vary from one disease to another.
His recalled his excitement on the rediscovery of Midino da Uzzi's 'Corporistea Humaniea', a forgotten dissection manual and possibly the first true anatomical text had led to Nicolaus confirming the thoughts of Nal-Afis on the circulation of blood in the human body, through the chambers of the heart, and through the lungs.
Nicolaus noted a small stand of some large shrubs or small trees at the edge of the jungle heavy with flowers in white, pink, or red and while nibbling a biscuit investigated. He soon discovered strange terminal panicles bearing fruit in small hairy capsules containing numerous seeds. Carefully he took several samples and sealed them in a pouch for further study. He looked deep into the thick greenery, how much remained to be discovered in the expanse?
