Beacon

Sentinel Island Camp - Morning

Till watched as the others left to go and explore the wreck and once again was grateful Alexis did not press him to join. All sailors were superstitious but that wreck on the rocks looked haunted to him and he wanted no part of it.
The Apothecary Nicolaus had elected to stay behind as well. He had found some sort of glass globe on the wreck the previous day some other samples that he wanted to test.

The sailor gave the man a wide birth. Some of the things he did were just unnatural. All those weird tools and contraptions made him uneasy. He ate some cold rations and left the camp. He'd told Alexis that he had to get a beacon ready to call on The Hogue when they were ready to be picked up.

Till spend most of the morning gathering dead wood and fallen branches, making a large pile at the edge of the forest. This would be there beacon when the time came. Or if an emergency happened. The pile had a hollow at its base that would be filled with dry wood when the time come. The rest of the branches likely wet by then would create a huge cloud of smoke.

As he worked he avoided glancing at the shipwreck in the distance. He knew the others would be safe with the Arbiter among them. He could tell the Gods acted through her. Her presence, her mind, her resolve. yes, they would be much safer with her than without.

When he was done with his task, he spend an hour or so collecting mussels and limpets from nearby rocks. He would get a nice stew going thickened by a few slabs of pemmican. Till returned to the camp without looking back, not noticing a small dust devil that appeared to follow him
