Peculiar Tree Rune
When he woke the next morning, Gonyaul could see the sun just starting to peek up over the horizon. He signed with his hands to the sun ~Good morning~ before carefully climbing down the tree from his sheltered hammock from the treetops. He inspected his hideaway's surroundings one last time and was content it looked as if he had never been there and then departed for the farm.
While on route, his demeanour became more focused and his instincts shouted to start scanning the area a little more carefully. His ears had picked up on how the morning air had grown quieter than usual. In addition, there were no morning songs from any birds at present. These were big differences between earlier in his walk and now. And suddenly, something caught his attention from the corner of his eye.
As he approached the nearby tree, Gonyaul noticed a strange rune carved into its trunk; it was surely not there before because the sap was running instead of dry. The sap was peculiar, luminescent, as it bled from the gouge. He placed one hand on the tree as he inspected it closer, then quickly looked around the area to ensure everything was safe before taking an even closer look. He signed, <<Interesting...>> to the tree, having never seen a sap or symbol like this before. And it obviously was not magik that produced this effect.
The symbol looked like three people to him. Two standing in the background with one person in the front with arms opened wide. The person in the front had the greatest glow, so it was the most important. Though it could also be three candles, objects near a curving river bank with a reflection in the water, branding mark design for harvesting the tree later, or something significant with the number three. It was a mystery. He liked problem solving.
Taking out a small carving knife, Gonyaul went to some nearby trees and tried recreating the symbol on them. The symbol was successful; however, no luminescent sap came out. He then took a small stick and collected as much of the sap as he could into a small pouch without letting it touch his skin; after all, it could be toxic. He planned to run experiments on it later; such as the following: how would it affect his garden plants, would insects or animals eat it, was it different during the day then night, what happened when applied to skin, what would happen if it contacted water, etc... were just a few of the ideas coursing through his mind.
Before he left he had one more thing he wanted to check. Gonyaul took his carving knife and carved the same symbol again into the exact same tree with the strange rune. Would it have the same effect if he did it?
He waited to see what would happen!
