Flames of Danger

Islana was starting to think that maybe a restful sleep just wouldn’t be in the cards for her, ever again. It was a consistent nights of waking up a great deal but tonight almost seemed worst than most. At least, she clearly wasn’t alone, all the sisters seemed to have those opposed to them. The young woman wasn’t exactly sure if that made her feel better or worse about the situation.

After once again, drifting back off to sleep her mind filled with more visions that could not quite take hold enough to make sense. Eventually, her dreams turned to heat, smoke, and screaming for her to wake up somewhere outside the redhead’s mind.

The sudden jolt awake made it abundantly clear - it was no dream. Her tent was on fire and filling with smoke. Putting her arm over her mouth, the woman’s mind went to one thought Kaithak. She could not see through the smoke enough to find the falcon and could not hear the bird’s call of danger that would come at such a time.

The flames were growing and getting dangerously close to impeding a way out. Grabbing a piece of fabric, she covered her mouth and ran for towards where the flap was. Only hoping that her feathered friend had made its way to safety. She did not make it before flames jumped in her way catching her left arm ever so slightly. Her eyes stung with the smoke making them water and it harder to see.

Try again. Try again. Everyone inside of her practically screamed at her. Get out. The redhead made it toward the opening once again and this time made it out. She fell towards the ground as if on instinct and continued coughing from the inhaled smoke. Someone threw a skin over her as her head lifted and green eyes glanced toward the fiery mess that had been the pavilion.

Lungs felt as if they couldn’t breathe, and her eyes watered but how much of that was the smoke and how much the utter fear suddenly felt was debatable. All there was to do was watch as the flames were extinguished by those surrounding the tent with buckets of water.

The sudden realization of the situation gave way to the pain in the forearm. Daring to look down, it was clearly burned and in need of help but the shock was keeping the pain somewhat at bay.

The sound of kawing from above, getting closer before Katihak landed on the ground in front of Islana. He was safe, which allowed the woman to breathe but the intake of air was met with more coughing. The Sk’elep came and sat alongside her. Islana wiped the wetness from her eyes, as the flames went out and what had been her pavilion fell into ruins.
