New Enemies and Acquaintances
People, especially men in authority, gave Islana a slightly uneasy feeling which she had learned to hide. The guard however didn't seem to be one to be of much concern for her at the moment. He addressed her much in the way one would expect given the circumstances. Then seemed to side with her more than the labourers which eased her mind a bit.
The way the tall man eyed her before leaving left Islana with the knowledge she had likely made some enemies.
Her nod told the guard she agreed and heard what he said about watching herself. She was aware she likely hadn't seen the last of the labourers.
Watching as the guard helped the old man up; Islana figured maybe luck had sided with her in getting one of the nicer guard members. Not that she had any real run-ins with the city guard before now, Islana did have preconceived ideas about them.
The old beggar gave Islana a nod as an acknowledgment and she returned the same. He then wandered off with his bowl in hand.
"I will try to heed that advice. Thank you, Hendrick." Her decision to tell him her own name came a moment later. "My name is Islana." It is likely they might run into each other again and it didn't hurt anything to give her first name.
