Zin is Against Me

The calm response from Alexis and the hollow one from Tarmen, caused Gonyaul to take his attention off of Voah. It softened the hardness he was feeling in the moment.

What he directed at Voah wasn’t even what he was upset about; it was just a costume disguising the disconnect and lack of reconciliation between them. He blinked and felt instant regret for his crassness. He bit his tongue from saying the next thing that popped into his head and looked apologetic.

“Don’t listen me Voah. I no well.” He groaned, exasperated at himself.

Alexis looked at Tarmen, sensing the usually quite jovial and resilient man had hit the bottom of the barrel. It was disheartening to see him that way.

“…did it matter to you?”

The anger he had been dealing with bubbled up, but it was like air pockets trapped in tar. He internally reacted to the question like a wounded animal, snapping at possibly opening up.
In the heart of the moment though, what did it matter?

“Never questioned it. Just figured I hadn’t pissed the Gods off enough for them to take me. Wouldn’t take back what I’ve done, but my people fight with the knowledge that Zin is at our backs, to live so that when death takes us, we can rest.”

The thought solidified as he spoke, that he truly had no thought of what would happen next.

“To think Zin is against me is like havin’ all of Kru’ll against me.”

At some point or another, Voah had felt every side mentioned, some at the same time and that’s what had her so confused.

Vastad was right, she had always been a follower. She always seemed to be looking up to someone else, wanting to be anything other than who she was. Something better than that curious girl that always got her into trouble. At least with the Pillars, she had a place to channel that part of her into something she thought was good.

She remained silent.

Alexis cocked her head.

“Why do you think Zin is against you?”
