No Shame in Leaving

Tarmen was grateful to hear Silina was well, but her body language was telling a different story. Her declaration only solidified the feeling.
She saw them as enemies, no matter what happened. As outsiders and invaders. Not that he could truly blame her.

“I have no say. Would like you to stay. We face similar enemies, but are not bound.”

She would be a potent addition to their crew, someone who knew the land and its workings far better than he did at least. Plus her powers had proven vital to survival both times she had used them. At the same time however, after what they had just endured it didn’t seem right to push recruitment.
He also registered Voah’s words, then as if to verify his concerns Gonyaul was suddenly a mess of tears. Any other day, any other battle, he might have looked down on the boy for being so naive to the world’s harsh treatment of its people. This time though… he always made a point to hold his thoughts at least once.
This was Gonyaul’s once.

A part of him wanted to try and convince Silina to stay, at least to fully recover, but Tarmen knew at this point he would have had difficulty even convincing himself to stay without the experiences he shared with the others. The best he could do was wish her the best no matter her choice and hope he wouldn’t be facing her as an enemy later on.

“My trust is with you.”

Not wanting to push further and have her panic, he simply nodded respectfully and gave her space. Voah was right after all, they had much to discuss.
