Pest Control
Shalia watched silently as the flames erupted within the house, dancing and billowing smoke into the air shortly after it began. Of course it had to be fire, but fire was effective. Blazing infernos sent pests scattering and Shalia moved with a smaller group around the house, slowly circling close to the burning building. The abandoned houses in the area were sure to begin burning as well with the close layout, but that was the water-bearing priests’ problem later.
That was when they got visual on movement. High up, two figures emerged and clambered onto the roof for an escape. The archers knocked arrows as one of them shouted something to make their position known, but shortly after another sound rose across the sky. A scream not far off but alerting of more company.
Called that one. They would never send only two or three of their own for a job like this…but maybe that had sent their best to compensate for smaller numbers.
Shalia raced through the alley to tail them as they leapt across roofs. She had no hesitation upon seeing the woman drop through, rounding to the nearest entrance which happened to be a broken down window she entered through. It was now or never. Her fingertips sprouted an icy covering in all of the anticipation, glowing in the darkness of night. The rest of the group primarily focused on the man she had been with, noting the witch’s selection of prey. One of them followed in with her, but she wanted this kill however it happened.
She reminded herself briefly of the map. Surely Amalu was going to prioritize that, and perhaps Shalia should’ve as well. This holy warrior had taken it from them and would compromise crucial parts of the war effort. If she was smart, she would have destroyed it, but there was no telling if she would talk or tell the truth about its whereabouts. It had been some time since Shalia last tortured someone, though she wouldn't shy away from knocking off that rust.
Shalia gripped the spear, holding it firmly out at her side as she sprinted into the crumbling building and toward the pile of debris on the floor that surrounded Voah Sahnsuur. Moonlight poured in from the hole in the ceiling. She moved through settling dust that stung her eyes and burned her throat slightly, but from the empty palm of her hand a frigid, bright beam shot out toward the enemy woman’s figure as she bridged the distance between them.
She was ready to finish what they started.
