At Alcuin's mention of Islana and Hunter, Voah was physically halted, coming to a jarring stop just outside of the hovel. That's where she had heard the name before. Gonyaul had briefly mentioned a prospector assisting with the search sometime during the descent to Maru.
So he had helped search for her in Fang too. That was endearing, and his authentic piety warmed her heart in a way that she had missed. The stranger reminded Voah of herself. She knew sacrifice and vengeance well. But she could think of few others from Ostiarium that would even bat an eye at her disappearance.
Was this the part she had yet to play? To save the life of a zealot? It was important to maintain the illusion that she was still fully a part of the Inquisition, that is, until she got to know the man a little better. She had the feeling, however, that revealing her departure from the Holy Office would not be a favorable option. For now she must be the Arbiter again and proceed with a delicate, albeit easy performance.
"The will of the Pillars indeed... it seems we are intertwined, you and I. You have my gratitude. It was honorable, but very dangerous for you to take on this responsibility yourself. And we must take caution here as I'm sure you know. There are enemies abound."
She couldn't help but allow her face to slightly betray her feelings regarding the fates of her friends. Hunter she had a strong respect for and had faith that he would earn his freedom through skill, chance, or his newfound faith in Cambena. But Islana... that poor girl.
"It was my fault they were out in those mountains... Their fate is on me... Hunter... I took on as my Incus... And the girl, Islana... The creed of Slivikhi was very interested in her as well, taking her on as a sacrifice... Very strange..."
She considered it for a moment. "It is regrettable what happened... how did you manage to escape?"
Before the man could respond to her, she saw Gonyaul approaching, leaning wearily on his staff. Voah opened the door and swiftly ushered everyone inside.
