Evening In The Valley

The group of four, Islana, Madaya, Kaithak and the Sk'elep, all had gone back to the Skara, after a few moments of rest, and got some of the meat from it.

It was such a large creature, so, with both Islana and the jackal injured, and lacking an actual butcher's knife it made getting every piece of usable meat impossible but they did what they could. The rest would likely be eaten by the animals in the area, once they realized it was there.

The thought of the predators that might show up at the smell of the carcass, made Islana rethink their current location. So, they moved a little further away, from the dead creature.

Madaya turned out, not surprisingly, to be as good of a student as a teacher and the girl gathered what was needed and started a fire using two rocks, the way the huntress had shown her.

The meat from the Skara was eaten by all. It had an odd, almost bitter taste, not quite as good as seafood but not bad. It was more tender than a creature that size really should be. It tasted good to Islana but part of that might have been the victory over it.

What wasn't eaten was turned into jerky, using a quicker higher heat method. By this point the evening had closed in on the valley. Islana was completely and totally drained and her power hadn't come back.

Having never experienced a drain that extreme before, and no real knowledge of how such things worked, it was very concerning to the redhead. Maybe, even more so than her physical injuries.

Madaya must have seen or sensed Islana struggling with the lack of power, and gently put her hand on the older woman's good arm.

"Stop, rest." The girl spoke gently, in a combination of hand gestures and Ozanine.

Usually, Madaya seemed very much like a ten year old girl, but other times the brown haired child seemed wiser than her years.

Islana nodded, hopefully, her power would be back tomorrow. It was a strange feeling to have it depleted, like a core part of her was missing.

Laying down was tricky, given her physical injuries. Her left arm was back in a sling but there just wasn't much to do for the rest. Still, somehow Islana managed to do just that.

It didn't take long for the exhaustion of the day to sweep over her and sleep to come.
