Voah assumed Vastad had conjured the whirlwind as a demonstration of the magikal foe she had encountered on Sentinel Island, but she was realizing now that it was as if the desert itself was coming alive to reject Him.
She barely considered Gonyaul's part in all of this after Vastad had beckoned her into the desert.
Then He spoke the words that tore into her soul. "I am here for the Child of the Void."
In that instance she knew she had given away the location of his entire people. Grief stricken, she turned back toward the river, but... there was no river. No tent. No Vauxian. How far had she walked? She hadn't been with Vastad that long...
She should have known better but if he was here for Gonyaul, there was nothing she could do. What did he mean by these words? They were from Kru'll, and before that, The Forsaken Lands according to the Vauxian who never told her a lie. Apparently he was something more.
'Would you sacrifice one life to save thousands?' he asked. She paused and stiffened. It was a loaded question and she knew he was really asking for a Vauxian life but she gave the honest answer.
"Yes... I would sacrifice a life to save thousands..." she replied, still looking off in the direction from which they had come.
"My own life... Gonyaul's life is not mine to forfeit... but... he is the most generous man I have ever met. He would gladly give his life... even to save just one person..." she turned back to Vastad with tears streaming down.
"You don't need my advice, my opinion, nor my permission... and clearly you can already read my mind, so... Ask him yourself." she said in a hollow tone..
