Alexis listened attentively to what Tar had to say, a bit surprised he would answer so readily now where he had kept things so close to his chest before.
Maybe those voices of his left him quite assured she would not use any of this against him once their deal had come to a conclusion. Granted she didn’t plan to, despite her frustrations with the man she just wasn’t vengeful like that. Not that he could know that. He had, after all, still found it necessary to withhold his knowledge of Islana as an insurance to force her cooperation. So honestly, she really didn’t know what his assessment of her was.
Or maybe it was much simpler, and after all these years that he seemed to have spent in solitude, he just wanted to relay his story to another human being.
And what a story it was. Power struggles among the divine, narrow mindedness towards differing beliefs, abandonment, betrayal and vengeance, leading to the fall of a once powerful people. It left one tempted to wonder if the god’s in all their divine glory were not quite prone to those human vices like arrogance and greed.
Surprising in a way, hearing a tale like this, that the Pillars seemed to coexist mostly peacefully. But who knew what it had taken to reach that state. Slivikhi, after all, too had been an largely worshipped deity at one point, until the Pillars at one point had somehow risen to overtake him. Not unlike Noraura had tried and apparently succeeded to wrestle control over the believers out of Fosia’s grasp.
Though it kinda sounded she had more or less simply snatched the spoils after his defeat at the hands of those Twin Gods…
An interesting detail, really. So those Twin Gods were fine with Noraura, but not with Fosia? That felt… strange. Maybe there had been some sort of alliance. Or maybe that scorned prophetess, after being punished by the fire god for simply suggesting another way, had a hand in directing her new gods’ fury.
Speculations, speculations. She really should stop before she gave herself a headache. There was no way to really know.
After taking a moment to take it all in, she continued her questioning.
“So if not faith, what is it that drives you?”
