Gonyaul’s explanation of his ancestral home brought up many questions and she had a difficult time deciding where to begin with her next line of inquiry. Also, she sympathized that he didn’t know how to find it on a map.

“So… you mentioned before that they sent you away. Why?”

Gonyaul looked off into the past remembering that pivotal day. He closed his eyes as faces, sounds, feelings flashed in his memory.

“An outsider was lost in the jungle. Had come below where we were. He was in need, so we rescue him. Once well, we prepared him to depart from us.”

He took a deep breath. “I selected to see him out safe, get him home, and make sure he not know how get back. Because my kagim is generous.”

He pulled back his Arisha Ikeburer and showed Voah the tattoo that meant generosity where his heart was.

So it seemed they had chosen him as the best option to help someone and they hadn't sent him away out of disappointment, anger, disgust, or as punishment for a crime.

"Do you all have different kagim?"

Voah still didn't quite understand the concept.
