In Bad Shape
JP with Tarmen, Gonyaul, Voah and Alexis:
Gonyaul untied Amu’s rope and decided to take the horse for a walk to get some exercise. He motioned to the others just enough to get their attention and pantomimed what he was about to go do. As he walked about the remains of the shrine he caught the unmistakable sent of alcohol.
“Help!” He called out as loud as his recovering voice could muster, which probably set it back a another day in healing.
“Alexis, Tar Man, Voah … come come!” His voice cracked and gave out before he could get to ‘good Wim is hurt’.
He moved to the sleeping body, the source of the smell, and shook it gently. Gonyaul could tell he was alive from the clues proximity gave him. From several meters back he thought it may be likely Wim may have been dead. In addition, he looked around to see if there were any immediate threats and wondered, ‘where was Boyce?’.
Voah was caught off guard as she was marveling at the remaining grandeur of the fort and the stone statue, Gonyaul’s voice split the air and she rounded the corner to see them. Her lucky star! She could see the blood from where she stood.
The Arbiter rushed over as quickly as her tired legs would carry her to the other side of Lord Riese.
“Wim? Open your eyes.” she said calmly, gently shaking him. She scanned the area for any sign of hostiles.
Amu moved away from the sudden commotion, made possible since Gonyaul had dropped the rope to try and stir Wim. He looked to Voah in shock at his discovery. Simultaneously he moved out of her way thinking she had better medical knowledge then he did for situations like this.
From Voah’s perspective, it appeared that Wim had taken some deep cuts to his arm and leg and had done his best to bandage the wounds, but as the blood had soaked through, she knew it would need changing, cleaning, possibly stitching, though she was not experienced in sewing people up.
Tarmen immediately had doubts. He had lost his own medical kit at some point and even then, who knew how steady his hands were.
Part of him knew he wouldn’t sleep right if he didn’t try though, quickly looking over the injuries.
Whoever had done this had meant to kill, which would make patching it up all the better.
“Alexis, do you have any hook’n’string? Won’t look pretty, but I can close these wounds.”
Gonyaul perked up and without a word took off at a sprint back to where they first met the horses. He had placed all the gear from the cave over there neatly organized on the ground. One of those items was a satchel containing the medical supplies Alexis packed for their trip both on the surface and beneath.
He was fast and was back in no time at all with the satchel handing it over to Tarmen. He wasn’t sure how much was left over after both he and Alexis had used many of its contents; however, he hoped something inside would prove to be useful.
Guilt piling up, the Arbiter’s jaw tensed as she unwrapped the bandage and exposed the cuts on Wim’s arm and leg. She did what she could with a water skin to clean the wound without making it worse and gave room to Tarmen. It was a nasty bite from a sharp blade. So far, he was still breathing and his heart was still beating.
Wim was being attended to by three very capable people. Gonyaul felt redundant and had a growing concern for the whereabouts of his friend Boyce. He departed the triage scene and began moving quickly through the area looking for signs of the man.
With his focus back to reality and the grim look of these wounds taking the euphoria of being rescued away, Tarmen could feel his own wounds aching.
Taking the supplies with a grateful nod to Barrel Boy, his every breath felt like being hit by that creature again. Didn’t help his concentration, though he had worked with more pain before.
Looking over the wounds again, he chose the leg to start with. Better to get the worst over with.
As much as she wanted to help, Alexis knew a fourth set of hands would do more harm than good.
Instead she drew her blade and began to secure the perimeter so they could work uninterrupted, looking for Blackwolf at the same time.
