Rivalry Of A Cat And Hummingbird

Sorley spread out the socks on a table, finally choosing a pair of green wool socks and put them on. He ignored a phone call from his boss… former boss. Sorley was unemployed for some reason. He scooped up his phone and texted Gelf. “Thank you for the socks. They're really comfortable.”

Gelf’s reply appeared after a few minutes: “I’m so happy you like them! I did super fast delivery by going through a friend. Glad they got to you!”

Sorley smiled at his stocking feet, so happy that Gelf still wanted to be his friend. He tried to think of something he could give her in return.

Nelly watched Sorley and chirped, tilting her head to the side.

Sorley looked at the bird. He still did not know where she had come from.

Nelly flapped her wings and flew over, sitting on his shoulder. She looked down at the socks and back at Sorley. Was he going to try them all on?

Sorley had been thinking about trying all the socks on. But now he was embarrassed by the bird watching him.

Nelly let out a squeak and went to a blue pair, wanting him to try them on. They were the same color blue that was Gelf’s eyes.

“They’re too good to go on my feet!” Sorley said.

Nelly stared at Sorley. <What the fuck is wrong with this guy? They’re just socks!!>

“They look too much like Gelf’s eyes!” Sorley said.

Nelly flew at Sorley and started to peck at his hands.

“Ouch! Hey! Stop that!” Sorley tucked his hands under his arms.

Nelly landed on the bed and stared up at him again.

“It would be an insult.” Sorley said. Sorley thought it would be more like blasphemy.

Nelly rolled her eyes and chose to steal up the socks, flying over to her nest. She wrapped the blue socks around the eggs.

Sorley stared at the nest, not sure if that was proper either.

Nelly gave him a look. A look that dared him to come for the socks. A look that warned him of the eye pecking he would get.

Sorley sighed. He returned his attention to the remaining socks.

Hearing Kiana, Nelly flew out of Sorley’s room. <Hello, feline! I am Nelly! You are?> She asked, flying out of reach. <Want to help me annoy the male in this room that refuses to wear blue socks?>

Whiskers’ eyes got a wild look and he hid under a chair as he watched the bird.

Nelly flew back into Sorley’s room. <You aren’t allowed to eat me!>

<I can eat whatever I can catch!> Whiskers tried to climb up Sorley’s surfboard.

Nelly chirped and got onto Sorley’s head. <Try, but I will eat your eyeballs!> She told Whiskers.

<Fat chance! You don’t even have a mouth!> Whiskers leapt at Sorley’s head. Sorley yelped and shielded his head with his arms.

Nelly flew up and out of reach, quickly zooming in to peck at Whiskers' left eye once he was upon Sorley. <I have faced bigger felines!>

Whiskers closed his eyes and turned his head away. <You haven’t faced me before!>

<And you’ve not faced I, Sir Whiskers!> Nelly chimed as she flew up and pooped right on Sorley’s face.

Sorley did not deserve that. He ran to the bathroom to wash his face.

Whiskers climbed up to the nest.
