Not A Haven (Pt. 1)
When Haven was brought back to her cell hours later she was still in the torn jumpsuit. She was covered in blood which was not hers, and vomit, which was hers. Urbanus seemed to think something was hilarious and could not stop laughing. He dropped her on her cell floor. Haven curled into a ball, shaking. She was so deep in shock it was taking a while for the vice of pain around her belly to register, or that she was starting to bleed.
After Urbanus left, a guard came to check on Haven and would take notice of all the blood. He made a very quick call for Loreen.
It didn’t take her long and Loreen rushed into the room, yelling at the guard to tell her what happened. The woman, having just taken on her shift, had no clue and assisted Loreen in caring for Haven.
“Damn it!” Loreen hissed as she got Haven to the medical room.
It was quickly apparent that Haven was having a miscarriage, she was barely far along enough to show. The majority of the blood on her came from someone else. Haven looked up at Loreen. “I tried to warn him I couldn't control it, tried to make him stop…” she was shaking.
Loreen had the nullifying component of Haven’s collar activated as she worked to care for her. “I know, honey. I know…just breath and focus on me, okay?” She said as she kept working, getting her to a surgical room. “Count down from ten…” She said as she put the mask over Haven’s nose and mouth.
By the time she would wake up it would be morning and she’d be safe in a medical room bed.
By the time Haven woke, Loreen should have learned what happened. Urbanus had put Haven in a cell with a meta who had been the second in command of Amihan on the outside. Urbanus had waited until the Amihan meta was using Haven when he used his fob to reactivate Haven’s powers. It had been a very bloody death that Haven wanted nothing to do with. After the Amihan meta was dead Urbanus nullified her powers again and brought her back to her cell.
Haven remembered what had happened and gagged.
Loreen had done her rounds and rushed over upon hearing Haven’s gagging. Grabbing a small trash bin, she handed it to Haven. “It’s okay, you’re in the medical ward.” She assured her.
The medical ward was where none of those bastards could visit.
When Haven finished retching she felt her stomach- it was flat. She realized that she had miscarried. Her shoulders slumped. “Why?” She did not just mean getting raped, impregnated and losing the pregnancy.
Loreen stared at her confusion. “Why what, Haven?” She asked as she handed the bin to someone to get rid of.
“Why was that done to me?” Haven asked.
“I don’t know, honestly.” Loreen admitted. She had no answers for it aside from killing that meta…
Haven wished she was not a meta, that she could just be a baseline human. Not have these things done to her. It was sick. She would never forget how it felt… She shuddered.
“I wish I could do more,” Loreen finally admitted after a moment, hanging her head. A hand went to the back of her neck, nails scratching there. The implant from Thrane was aching horribly.
“I tried to warn him, he wouldn’t listen to me.” Haven started to cry.
“No one blames you for that, Haven.” Loreen said as she gently got Haven’s vitals.
Haven cringed from Loreen’s touch. “He was a meta.” Haven was used to the humans abusing her, but up until now the other metas had been safe.
“He was also someone working for Amihan or whatever they’re called. Thrane doesn’t care what happens to them, sadly…” Loreen admitted as she finished up quickly and stopped touching Haven. She hated making people uncomfortable.
Haven curled into a miserable ball. She could still hear Urbanus’s laughter in her ears. She meant even less than an Amihan meta in this place.
Loreen gently tucked Haven in with the blanket. “Stay here. They're not allowed in here…”
Haven completely buried herself under the blanket. She felt unhuman, gross, and was still sore from the miscarriage.
“Rest for a bit, okay?” Loreen said and walked away.
Haven lay quietly, wondering if life was worth this much suffering.
Another meta was wheeled into the room and put on a bed next to Haven’s. Her pink hair was stained with blood as they called for one of the nurses to care for her.
Yule let out a moan. “Just let me die…” She whimpered.
Haven was startled to hear her own thoughts voiced. She peeked out of the blanket at the other meta.
Yule was in rags and weeping as a doctor and nurses took care of her. “Please…” She begged as they stitched up an ugly gash. It was obvious she had been thrown into another metas cell to fight and had somehow survived. Sadly, he had done far more than fight her.
“I am so sick of them doing this,” a nurse whispered. “No woman should be treated this way.”
“Hush,” another hissed.
Haven leaned up on an elbow, watching them working on Yule. No meta woman was human here.
“They're as human as us,” the nurse replied.
“Keep talking like that and Thrane will feed you to the beast.” The other scolded.
Yule looked at Haven. “Hi…” She choked out.
“Hello.” Haven said in a small voice.
“Th…they gave me to…a m-m-monster…” Yule said as the nurses bandaged her up.
“Me too.” Haven whispered.
