Sweetest Man Alive

Sorley went to his room, but he did not stay there long. He paced around his room a little, then made up to some decision and headed to the med ward. It should not be busy this late at night, right?

A few nurses were working and one looked up when Sorley arrived. “Hello, do you need help?” She asked, looking over him and seeing nothing physically wrong.

“Uhm. Er.” Sorley blushed deeply.

The nurse stood there in silence. “What is it, sir?” She asked again.

“I, er, was hoping I could, er, get checked.” Sorley stammered.

“Okay, for what?” The Nurse needed details, so she started to pull out some paperwork for him. “If it’s something you can’t talk about, you can fill this out and we’ll get you to the correct person.”

Sorley could not talk about it. His blush deepened. He took the forms. He struggled to fill it out, writing these things down.

The nurse waited patiently, dealing with some other forms as she did so.

Sorley could not make eye contact with the nurse as he handed in the forms.

The nurse looked over the forms and nodded. “Ah, understood.” She said and went to make a call.

Sorley hunched his shoulders, waiting.

The nurse would soon return. “This way, sir.” She said and took him back to get the tests done.

Sorley went with the nurse. He was clearly anxious. He felt like he was going to his own funeral.

The tests were uncomfortable, but once he was done, the nurse gave him a few things, including some condoms. “Just to be safe. We’ll have the results in a week.”

Sorley’s face turned beet red at the condoms. “I’m-I’m not…” He wished he could die on the spot.

“It’s what we do to help.” The nurse patted him on the shoulder. “If you don’t get a call, call the number on the card.”

“Okay.” Sorley buried the condoms in his pocket under bits of paperwork and the card.

The nurse would smile and get back to work, helping some girl who had a sinus infection.

Sorley went back to his room. He decided to take another cold shower before going to bed.
