Mission: Get The Storm (Pt 3)
When morning came, they would all be awoken by the loud roar of thunder. “Sounds like she’s close…” River said, now sitting up and brushing her hair as she looked toward the city. The storm was right over it, lightning flashing and creating frightening patterns within the dark clouds.
Riven was already eating as he watched, the hair on his tail and ears standing on end.
Even Loreen looked nervous.
Alex quickly checked over the cage.
Riley was the only one not affected as he looked at it. In his mind he could almost predict where the lightning would hit next.
“You think The Storm is awake?” Riven called over to Riley.
Riley nodded turning off his powers “the frequency of the lighting and it's patterns suggest so. I should be able to dodge it if I need to get close.”
“The collars I made with Mark and Alex should hold but it might be best to sedate her as well.” Radar added.
Loreen held up a syringe that had a small cap over the needle. Going to Riley, she held it out to him. “You be extra careful or I’ll beat your ass for dying.”
“If he’s dead how…” River began.
“I’ll bring him back to life and kick his ass then bring him back to life again! Okay?!” Loreen almost wailed and stomped off.
“Is she okay?” River looked concerned.
“She’s just being Loreen…” Riven grunted and looked over Radar’s shoulder at the weather data. “Ah, fuck…a tornado is forming over there!”
Alex whistle over at Loreen to get her attention “tornado time to load up in the van we gotta do this now.”
Riley looked over at Loreen and River “I'll be fine Thrane had her stop my heart before with her lightning it wasn't too painful.”
Loreen gave Riley that look before climbing into the van with all her stuff. “You’re NOT allowed to die, damn it!”
“Just be careful,” River said as she gently touched Riley’s arm.
Riven helped Radar and Alex pack up their stuff into the van.
Riley ran alongside as they drove carrying a lightning rod to attract any lightning that might hit the van. He wasn't worried as he would be fast enough to dodge it.
Riven let Alex drive as he watched the storm from the passenger seat. “I’m ready if I’m needed…”
The storm only grew more intense and if Riley got there first, he would see a small young woman next to who was obviously Thrane in the center of the city. His hand was on her shoulder as her hair fluttered and her eyes glowed silver. Lightning struck all around, wind breaking equipment and sending vehicles flying as the tornado slowly began to reach for the ground.
Riley glared at the monster as he saw red. “Get away from her” he shouted as he picked up speed before throwing a knife like a rail gun.
Thrane smirked as his shield deflected the knife. “Riley, nice to see you again.” He said in a strangely calm tone.
Evie looked toward Riley as tears fell from her eyes, crystalizing in the heat of her power and flying away. She didn’t want to do this, but had no choice as The Storm began to take control of her. “...s…sorry…” She mouthed the word, unable to actually speak it.
Riley gave her a kind look showing her didn't blame her before focusing on Thrane “Let her go”
“Make me if you can.” Thrane said as he made parts of the ground burst open in an attempt to make Riley fall.
Riley dodged them picking up speed as he charged towards them.
Thrane kept trying to stop him, lifting walls, shooting spikes and creating more holes. The entire time, his hand stayed on Evie until she began to float into the air. Her body curled, arms hugging her legs as the storm grew stronger. Rain began to pour down on them, sweeping back and forth with the powerful wind.
Riley moved closer and closer noticing his chance he launched himself at Evie injecting and collaring her before carrying her away.
Thrane merely smiled as he watched Riley go.
