The Twins Are Here

Tzeitel woke up, eyes wide with fear. Then realized where she was and that she had just flooded the room with pheromones in her sleep. “Oh god, I'm sorry.” Tzeitel was completely embarrassed to lose control of her powers to this degree. She switched off her pheromones but it would be a while before the air cleared. She wished Colt was here. Cook had told her that Colt had been brought back to life but Tzeitel feared he'd be killed again when he refused to hunt metas. Tears streamed from Tzeitel’s eyes.

“What wrong?” Klaire asked as she took the little clip off her nose. She wanted to get accustomed to Tzeitel’s pheromones so she could more easily resist them in case her friend needed help while in a panic of some kind. “Why are you sorry?”

“I'm too powerful to be losing control of my powers like this.” Tzeitel awkwardly got out of the recliner. “If Colt was here he could clear the air. But Thrane brought him back to life to hunt metas… Colt is stronger than I am, he's going to get killed again when he refuses.”

“I have a feeling Colt will find a way to survive.” Klaire replied, one of those little intuitions of hers kicking in. “For now, maybe we can work on some breathing exercises to help you stay calm?”

“I hope so… but Thrane already killed him once just for trying to help me.” Tzeitel could still see him being murdered in front of her.

“I wish I knew how to find out, but right now all we can do is wait and hope.” Klaire admitted. “Do you need anything?”

Tzeitel looked at Klaire with her eyes brimming with pregnancy hormones then reached over to hug her tight. “Thank you for being my friend.” Her voice shook with emotions.

Klaire gently hugged her back. “No need to thank me, silly.” She said with a smile.

“Yes I do.” Tzeitel tried to stop crying, but could not and wound up crying even harder until she was sobbing into Klaire’s shoulder.

Klaire wasn’t sure how to deal with this. She wasn’t very good with tears since she’d been forced to keep them held back at MegaCorp. “Do you need to run to the bathroom or anything? Want something warm to drink?” She was trying to think of anything soothing.

“M-maybe something hot to drink.” Tzeitel released Klaire from the hug but still shook from sobs. “I’m sorry.”

“No need to be sorry,” Klaire reminded her and went to the table nearby. She started some tea with the coffee maker, merely heating up water with it. “This tea is made by River, our plant expert, so it should help a lot at keeping you calm and has no side effects on pregnancies.”

“Okay.” Tzeitel said shakily. “Thank you.” She felt guilty for being such a burden.

Klaire hummed softly, not bothered in the slightest.

Tzeitel waddled behind Klaire, trying to not be clingy.

Klaire added the tea bags to the water once it was done. “Let it sit for a little bit so the flavor sets. It tastes like lemonade.” She explained, turning to her friend.

“Oh.” Tzeitel did not know if she wanted something that tasted like lemonade or not, she wished she could stop crying. It was making her stomach hurt.

Klaire held out the tea to her. “It’s okay…it doesn’t burn like lemonade.”

Tzeitel sniffled, a very small smile on her face. She reached for the tea, then suddenly dropped it, doubling over.

Klaire jumped into action, grabbing Tzeitel’s shoulders to keep her from falling. “What’s wrong?!” She asked quickly.

“Hurt-” Tzeitel gasped, at least it seemed to be passing.

Klaire got a whiff of the air and her eyes widened. “Oh…oh, no.” She whispered and got Tzeitel to sit in a chair before going to the phone on the wall. Grabbing it up, she made a call to the medical ward.

“Klaire?” Tzeitel’s voice sounded very small and scared.

“You’re going to be okay! I promise!” Klaire reassures her as medical staff swiftly arrive, Loreen with them.

“I thought we had at least another month,” Loreen said in a serious tone. “Looks like you’re ready to get those twins out, missy.”

“Klaire…” Tzeitel was terrified and she clutched at her best friend’s hand. She had been fearing this for months, and all the medical staff made her more anxious. She did not want them touching her.

Klaire would be with Tzeitel the entire time, holding her hand as they went. “It’s going to be okay,” She promised her…

Tzeitel gave Klaire a pleading look, she wished she could trade places with her. She was scared, it was painful. She started bleeding. She started to bleed a lot. She used her repellent pheromones trying to get the medical staff to leave. Even as the blood loss began to weaken her.

“Stop that!” Klaire warned her. “They’re needed for this, okay? Sending them away will cost you more than anything! Focus on me, breath…” Grabbing her face with her free hand, Klaire made Tzeitel look at her and they put a screen between Tzeitel and her lower half.

Loreen would have to perform a c-section and it would take time and a lot of numbing so Tzeitel wouldn’t have to feel it.

It would take hours, but they would eventually hear the newborns crying…

There was so much blood that it was a miracle Tzeitel was alive. Thanks to all the extra blood the medics had and Loreen’s hard work, it was one death avoided.

For now.
