The Captain

Captain Vanessa Miller peeled off the electrodes and sat up, the effects of cryosleep immediately hitting her. Her body felt drained, her mouth dry and parched. The lights stabbed at her eyes, intensifying a growing headache. Whether it was stomach-churning bouts of nausea and dry heaving, atrophied limbs, disorientation, or headaches, the transition was never easy, even though this wasn’t her first time emerging from cryosleep. Eventually, the sickness would subside enough for her to make her way sluggishly to her locker.
